To commence with, I will deal with how the characters feelings changed. At the beginning of the book, Clay is just the young man Hannah discerns in school. Clay has always been madly in love with Hannah. He later starts to work with her at The Crestmont. Subsequently, she starts to develop feelings of fondness towards him. As an illustration, on Clay's tape, she starts with this quote from Shakespeare “Romeo, oh Romeo, Wherefore art thou Romeo.” In other words, it shows Hannah’s trepidation that their deep affection for would another would not last because Clay is this person who seems to be faultless and she is just this young woman who is rumored to be gruesome. As a matter of fact, she demonstrates her affection for him once again when she says “Because you aren’t every other guy — you’re different. You’re good. And kind. And decent.” To say nothing of, she also declares this “Clay, honey, your name does not belong on this list” she later expresses that he is on the tapes to complete the story of her life. Specifically, she says, “But you need to be here if I’m going to tell my story.” That is to vocalize, this is when her feelings change; before they shared emotions of lust and all of a sudden, Hannah condemns Clay for being the reason she committed suicide. She was still madly in love at the beginning of their encounter. In particular, when they initially encounter each other. This is shown when she says, “I'd talked to you a million times before, but tonight was different, and I didn't know what to say to you.” Her feelings change when things get heated between the two so, they go upstairs to be alone, she states this “Just leave me alone.Okay, just leave me alone, Clay. You should just go.” From here she articulates why she made her ultimate prearrangement. My evidence from the novel is when she says “Part of me was saying …show more content…
Already stated, it has an effect on the whole novel because as their relationship changes we find out more secrets about the two. In a like manner, it helps further the storyline to Clay’s breaking point. Let alone, it assists us in understanding why certain things happened to Hannah. Above all, it shows what could have saved Hannah and that could have changed the novel altogether. To put it another way, without the relationship changing the way it did the novel could have been written completely
