Prophets accelerate the glory of god in many of the books located in the Bible, they are a main focus whether old or new testament, they hold value to overall themes and create a vessel for god to shine through. There are many prophets in the Bible and each one of their tasks are giving by god. With the ultimate purpose of protecting them from the evils of the world and leading to salvation. Many Prophets follow every word giving to them by God while others run away from their destiny causing turmoil in their life and the lives of those who are around them. This paper will break down what it is to be a prophet, character analysis of three prophets in the Samuel, Jonah, and Ezekiel, then comparison between a major prophet and a minor prophet.

What makes a prophet a prophet? The definition of a Prophet is a person who speaks for god or a deity, or by divine inspiration. The prophets of Israel were not ecstatic’s; many people believe the early prophets were ecstatic. This is because during this time period, people believed to become ecstatically frenzied was a signs of being a prophet. This was traced back to Canaan as the source of this phenomenon. Classifying a prophet introduces the question if one speaks prophecies does that make them a prophet. Two terms that was used were Ro’eh and Hozeh the first one of these words was used twelve times in the old testament, while the second 18, they both mean “to see” (the prophets of Israel, pg 58) when Saul was seeking Samuel he asked “ is the seer here” (I sam.9:11), Samuel said to Saul “you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place with lyres, timbrels, pipes and harps being played before them, and they will be prophesying. 6 The Spirit of the …show more content…
In the old testament those who were prophets of God were called upon to help the children of Israel and also save those who were did bad in the sight of the lord. Prophets in the new testament were called to help save the people of the world. Jesus was bought to this earth to save all the souls of God’s children. The Church is supposed to be built on the foundation of prophets “Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.” (Ephesians, 2:20) this passage states that church is built on foundation of Prophets and not the other way around because the Prophetic is not giving by the church but is giving by God as mentioned before. Unlike other positions in the church, the prophetic was never ordained in the old testament or the new testament.
