In our small world, there is something you can do to improve things. In the story “Thank you Ma’am” it talks about how Mrs.Jones a working class woman who helps Roger, a boy that stays alone in night and steals. She takes him in her apartment and tries to improve him. She helps him to choose a better path in life. The author compares two people that are in poverty. He describes that even two people of the same class can help each other and they can show kindness, honesty, sincerity and other good attributes to each other.
Good attributes will make your life better and will create a good personality in front of the others and it will make it easier to make decisions. People always think that a person with good attributes will be a better person

You need to know who tries to use you for their own business, because that is not good for you. In the story “Thank you Ma’am” Mrs. Jones says: “I have done things, too, which I would not tell you, son----neither tell God, if didn’t already know. So you set down while I fix us something to eat. You might run that comb through your hair so you will look presentable.” (lines: 124-129, Hughes). This quote makes it clear that even Mrs.Jones has done bad things, for her purpose, but now she tries to advice Roger. She tries to tell him that he should not do such things. Good attributes should be used when you see that, the person really needs it. If he does not need your help, you should not just leave it there; you should give advices to him/her. People can also show good attributes to wrong person. When Mrs.Jones shows honesty to Roger, she thought it would be more correctly trying to help him rather than just calling the police. She helps him, even though he wanted to steal from her. She might show good attributes to the wrong person, but in this case she showed honesty to the right person. So this did not affect badly to Mrs. Jones and Roger. A quote from the story is when Mrs. Jones says: “Don’t believe I do, unless you just want sweet milk yourself. I was going to make cocoa out of this canned milk I got here.” (lines: 144- 147, Hughes). Knowing to which person to show good attributes and help him or her, is a very important thing.
