Kingston recollects her mother’s story telling about heroic Chinese females, similar to Fa Mu Lan, the young lady who went to fight for her father and returned a national legend. Kingston thinks her mother prepares her with the legends of solid women that she could develop into. That is what made Kingston feel that she can be a warrior woman; it is not impossible. In Kingston’s fantasy, she started to follow a bird up into the mounts until she passed by a shelter of an old couples, they wanted her to become a perfect warrior so they started to train her. Despite of, her training she was living alone for years on the mounts of the white tigers, she did not eat for days and when she ate she could only eat vegetables and drink a melted snow. Finally, she said that she can’t be a real warrior but she can use her own words to defend herself and that she could use them to bond her people – the Chinese Americans behind her.
Maxine Hong Kingston wrote The Woman Warrior- “White Tigers” the story started tat Kingston heard stories from her Grandmother and mother about her Chinese heritage. The book is also a record of a youth girl living with “Ghosts”. The “Ghosts” represents the people that she meets in the United States as they are treating Chinese Americans in inequality. This Chapter declares that women can do everything and they can reach a lot of success especially Chinese Females. Kingston used the folk tale of Fa Mulan to show the ability of females to break the barriers that the society holds and also, to prove that females are strong independent. There were a lot of similarities between Kingston and Fa Mulan, but the clearest similarity between them is that both of them after fighting they came back to their houses and they have completed their roles that made them proud of themselves.
