Character Analysis Of Chris Mccandless In 'Into The Wild'

To begin, I disagree with Jon Krakeur in which he believed that Chris McCandless wasn't crazy, incompetent, or a sociopath. Through reading the novel named " Into the Wild" one begins to acknowledge the reckless decisions McCandless makes in which makes him seem crazy. By taking these drastic actions one starts to question what was McCandless actually looking to find in the wild. Firstly, Chris had been making many poor decisions in his adventure to alaska and the thought that society was a disease in people's life. An example from the novel stating how he made poor decisions is " simply abandon the Datsun and resume his odyssey on foot" . This decision was the starting point in which McCandless's effort to survive, started to make a major downfall. At the moment in which he left his Datsun, he also made the verdict of burning the money he was carrying. In which the money could have been used to buy more supplies for the trip and may have saved his life. Another quote would be "… government business. For their stupid rules…". McCandless shows his opinion in how the government only wants to control people and how he feels chained to follow their rules. Through the novel chris states how he has bought "2 lb. of rice…22 bolt rifle" and has taken notes on how to hunt " Remove the heart and other lungs". The knowledge that chris has isn't enough to survive by himself. Another quote is "… rash and incautious by nature- had committed a careless blonder;confusing one plant for another and died as a consequence". This was the reason of death that was told of Chris McCandless. In conclusion, Chris McCandless was a foolish young man, who didn't appreciate what he had in life. Also McCandless was unprepared mentally and physically for the dangers that followed him during his adventure to Alaska. Which at the end , ended his
