Touching the Breeze: Sue Goyette’s Ocean “Objects are the way things appear to a subject – that is with a name, an identity, a gestalt or a stereotypical template. … Things, on the other hand, … [signal] the moment when the Object becomes the Other, when the sardine can look back, when the mute idol speaks, when the subject experiences the object as uncanny and feels the need for what Foucault calls ‘a metaphysics of the object, or, more exactly, a metaphysics of that never objectifiable depth from which objects rise up to our superficial knowledge.’” (W. J. T. Mitchel in Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter (2010), 2)…
Earth and Environmental Science Environmental Impact Statement By Byron Smith Actual Development “Hume Coal Mine “ In the Berrima area located in the NSW southern highlands there has been a proposed coal mine. This coal mine will consist of large stockpile near Berrima (town centre), train loading facilities, a train line and an underground mine. The Hume coal mine is too “extract 3.5 million tonnes of coal… in the next 19 years”.…
Results A total of 383 scallops were collected in this survey, with scallops present on 66 out of the 151 transects surveyed. The mean size (ANOVA, F(380, 2)=13.9, p< 0.05) and recreational area (p<0.05) (Table 2). The greatest average density per site was observed within Paterson Inlet with 0.21 scallops per m2 at site M2, in the inner inlet (Figure 2). The next highest average density per site was found at site M9 in the outer inlet with a density less than half of the greatest density at 0.06 scallops per m2 (Figure 2). Four sites contained no scallops in any of the transects surveyed (Rec3, M8, D1 & D4; Figure 1 & 2).…
Marine debris can degrade marine habitats, endanger marine and coastal wildlife and pose threats to human health and safely. Scientists and explorers believe that the best way to accrue the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is to limit or eliminate the use of disposable plastics and increase the use of biodegradable resources in human’s everyday life. Since the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is so far from any country’s coastline, no nation takes the responsibility or provides the funding to clean it up.…
The great pacific garbage patch Amirah Osama Introduction: The ocean contains 2.2 million (±1.3 million) species. (Mora. C, 2011) The survivial of these species is reliant on the health of the ocean …..…
The Salton Sea is one of North America's largest saline lakes, which was re-created by a levee break of the Colorado River in 1905. Historic evidence show that the Colorado River had spilled over several other times. By the time they were finally able to stop the breach in 1907, a 45 miles long and 20 miles wide salt water lake the Salton Sea had formed. The Salton Sea quickly became a tourist destination. According to an article in The Associated Press, racing became very popular in the late 1920's the "high salinity made boats more buoyant and, at more than 200 feet below sea level the barometric pressure improved performance.…
Article 1: Coastal erosion and the ban on hard structures In this article it mainly talks about the controversy and problems with coastal erosion and the ban on hard structures. A rule was put into place to help preserve the beaches. People are helping to contribute to the coastline and its problems. Erosion is an easy thing to notice when at the beach.…
What Is The Difference? What is a chart? Is it a map? To answer this let us look at the definition for both terms.…
The Rocky Mountains, also known as the Rockies are a masive mountain range located in western North America. It is believed that to the south the American Rockies exsisted under sea level at some point millions of years ago. Looking similarly too florida and it's tropical tempertures. Proof of this is in the Colorado Rockies, sediment left behind, mostly large fossils of female ammonites or squid, crabs and other sea creature fossils.…
The Beneteau Oceanis 41 was designed for sailing comfort and ease. Several friends of mine sail this boat and rave about the size and stability of this 41 ft. luxury vessel. I have had the pleasure of being a passenger aboard the 41 my friend sailed and I was mesmerized by the grandness of every aspect of the boat. Most impressive of all is that a boat this size can easily be handled by just two people.…
Air pollution contributes greatly to global warming Global warming also contributes to the phenomenon of ocean acidification. Ocean acidification is the process of ocean waters absorbing more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Fewer organisms can survive in warmer, less salty waters. The ocean food web is threatened as plants and animals such as coral fail to adapt to more acidic oceans.…
As it was stated in “Plastic Debris in the Ocean” by Florian Thevenon, Chris Carroll and Joao Sousa shows readers just by recycling products won’t work. Just recycling waste is not the solution of the problem. Theyenon said in his review, just recycling materials will not solve problem. Just recycling material and wasting them at same time won’t put system into equilibrium process. For example group of 10 people are using 10 plastic material each per day.…

If one person’s inaction leads to the death of another, is he guiltier than someone who committed a violent act that results in a person’s death? In August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, Citizen Barlow stole a bucket of nails, but did not come forward when another man was accused. The man subsequently committed suicide due to the false accusation and the significance of being labeled a thief. Another character, Caesar Wilts, shoots and kills a man who was suspected of committing a crime. While both men’s actions resulted in the death of another; who, if either, is guiltier than the other?…
Increased ocean acidification isn’t the only thing affecting the ocean, but it is very problematic because it erodes aragonite which is a mineral of calcium carbonate. In other words it kills corals and causes the hard exoskeleton to erode. Action needs to be taken to ensure the survival of corals and the creatures that rely on coral reefs to survive. Coral reefs are sources of food for millions of people, but also are sources of medicines. As coral reefs disappear so do the organisms that are mutualistic to it.…
