At lunch, I sat with Aera and Angel on the cement bench. We laughed as Angel showed us a video: Kermit Sings. “Dude,” Aera voiced. “This is everything.” Kermit sat on a stool, singing some rather disturbing songs to a group of children, driving one of them to tears. “Thanks for ruining my childhood,” I said after the video was over. “Any time,” Angel declared, cheerily. “I’m going to go find Jason and just scream ‘Billy!’” Aera laughed, jumping up to find Jason. “I wonder why I’m friends with you guys sometimes,” I admitted. Angel chuckled. “You know you love us.” “Do I? Do I really?” “Hey,” I looked up to see Finn leaning against the wall with a big smile plastered across his face. Angel face lit up with a grin. “Hey yourself,”

I grabbed my backpack, and we started towards the geography classroom. Rose joined us. “Hey,” she greeted, nudging Hazel. “I saw you with Boyd.” Hazel groaned. “What happened,” I asked. She sighed. “I agreed to walk home with him today. He said he just wanted to talk like friends.” “I don’t get why you’re so against dating him,” Rose voiced. “It seems like he’s really changed.” “I don’t know,” Hazel shrugged. “When we were friends, I sort of had a crush on him. But I knew he didn’t like me back, so I let go. I burned that bridge. If I did date him, I would be moving backwards not forwards.” “Well,” I voiced. “Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take two steps forward.” “Whatever,” Hazel said. “What’s going on with you?” she asked Rose. “I feel like we haven’t talked in forever.” Rose shrugged. “I don’t know.” She smiled. “I kinda think me and Cason are gonna date.” “Aw,” Hazel and I proclaimed in unison. “That’s so cute.” Rose grinned. “And you?” She nodded toward Angel. “How are things with you and Finn?” “Good,” I nodded. “So good that I think I might be getting suckered. Like I’m just the flavor of the week.” Rose shook her head. “I don’t think …show more content…
“No, it’s my bad.” I stood up, brushing a stray lock of hair behind my ear as he handed me the books with a smile. “See you around,” he voiced. “Yeah,” I replied as he started down the hallway. “See you.” Step one: make contact. Completed. I was starting off small.

When I returned home, I went straight to my room, per usual. What wasn’t per usual, was Leslie and Leyla lying in wait for me. “So?” They voiced in unison. I rolled my eyes. “Do you not have enough of your own problems?” “We’re never too busy to bug you, Haze,” Leyla grinned. I sighed, sitting down on my bed. “There’s nothing really worth mentioning.” “You did walk home with him didn’t you?” Leslie asked. “I did.” “And?” I shrugged. “We just talked.” “And?” Leyla continued to prod. They were not going to leave me alone. I sighed. “It’s just like we’re starting over. He really has changed a lot.” “For better or worse?” Leslie wondered. “I don’t know.” I racked my brain, the conversation had blurred together. “His favorite color used to be red, but now it’s green. He say green is a much more chill color.” “So is he trying to say that he’s a much more chill guy now?” Leyla voiced. I gave another shrug. “I’m not sure

My breathing slowed down as I ran through the door of ‘Misty’s Salon’. All eyes turned to the door at the jingling of the bells, causing me to push my fingers through my frizzy hair. I began walking down the aisle until I reached my chair. The flight was surprisingly very calm except for a bit of turbulence here and there. It’s remarkable how mankind was able to find a way to get big hunks of metal to fly through the air. I wish I could do something like that with my life, except that I’ll never have the opportunity to do so. “How are you doing Olly?”…

She had done pretty well with the book-lessons. It turns out that she had checked out a history book and has been reading it between classes, so she was already catching up with other students, faster than I had expected. She seems to enjoy that subject. And her knowledge of herbs and their uses was more extensive than I had believed--the main problem was translation. I would ask her about an herb, and she would say she’s never heard of it, but when I started to describe what it looked like, she’d go, “Oh!…
