Change In The Maze Runner

Throughout the Maze Runner the characters are presented with many problems they must address in order to survive. These problems change their personalities and views on life making them more aware and more serious. For example, in the beginning of the book we view Thomas as not confident and overly curious, but as the book continues we see him beginning to become more confident and understanding of his surroundings. Another character we see change is Chuck who used to be scared of death and had very little courage but in the end he tragically dies so Thomas can live. To me it’s interesting to see characters such as Thomas and Chuck, gain such significant self esteem growths. Because Thomas and the other characters had such strong character

When Thomas first went into the maze he saw what grew in the depths of the other side, “Thomas pushed aside the the swelling panic and set himself to work… he found a thick growth of ivy covering most of the stone” (121) Thomas wasn’t sure about what lurked on the other side of the wall, he had only seen the environment within the glade, which was just a grass field and shrubbery. Thomas risked going into the maze, because he wanted to help the runners find a way out. The author shows that a change of scenery could be the death of you but Thomas knew that…

As far back as I can remember, reading has always been a tremendous part of my life. Growing up, my mother introduced reading as one of the most important skills I could learn. Throughout my childhood, my entire family constantly incorporated reading into my daily schedule by helping me complete word searches, reading books, or rehearsing the ABC’s. Every night before bed, my mother and I would read a page out of a children’s bible book called Blessings Every Day as opposed to the classic Green Eggs and Ham. Reading has taught me how to exercise my imagination, how to effectively communicate with others, and relieves my stress.…

Furthermore in the book of Handmaid’s Tale in chapter 27 it states these quote A rat in a maze is free to go anywhere as long as it stays inside the maze. Margaret Atwood uses this quote to question the true meaning of freedom. For example A rat in a maze believes, that he’s free because he is allowed to run in whatever direction he chooses, and this is all the rat has ever known, But he is not free, this rat is still trapped inside a maze and still under the complete control of humans, and this symbolized how the society of Gilead, the people that are living in Gilead can roam free within it’s walls, but are constantly being watched by the eyes, and but they all know that escaping would be impossible but the future believes that this is…

Not including Gally, everyone else (or almost everyone else) risked and sacrificed their lives to have a better cause, because if they get out of the Maze, they know they’ll finally have freedom and do whatever they want to do! I also think we need courage and braveness to sacrifice, because without that, we can’t do anything but be scared of everything, like how the Gladers were scared of the Maze at first. But after Thomas gave all of them courage, they started to be brave and think about the better things about the possibility of when they escape. I also think the other main theme is to explore because if Thomas and Minho didn’t explore around the Maze, everyone would’ve lost hope and get stuck in the Glade forever. If the Runners (before Thomas came in) didn’t seek new ways through the Maze each day to find a way out, Thomas wouldn’t have even gotten an idea of where and how to go through the Maze.…
