Law enforcement must have a structure of command to ensure a line of authority. Unity of command is a principal that allows 1 supervisor to be in charge of large amount of employees. A subordinate should only have 1 superior, this principle can be also known as the “Chain of Command” this method is used in many organizations like law enforcement as well as government and military. For an example with military and law enforcement rank levels upholds the type of position which employees above them can only answer to. Another example is that a Sergeant only answer to a lieutenant as well as a lieutenant answer to a captain and it continues up the chain. working as a cashier I had a chain to respond too I will go to my manager before going higher than him it’s line pyramid is a cashier, department manager, assistant manager, store manager then corporate. Its command ensures that higher leader’s isn't unnecessarily bothered with the matter that can be handled by the workers below them. Command is referred to as authority, officers has to answer to a certain superior by rank.
