Logo The Cerebral Palsy Alliance logo represents an organization that provides support and a better quality of life for people with disabilities. The logo is formed by 11 irregular shapes and three words. When looking at the logo we can identify the shape of a palm print. The gestalt law of closure makes this possible as the viewer closes the gaps between the shapes and groups them accordingly to construct a “whole” which results in a familiar form. Proximity and similarity help identify the different sections that form the print.…
This commercial is about a young man called Ben Jackson who was born with Spastic cerebral palsy. It starts with a brief history of what the doctors told his mother that he won’t be able to play sports, take care of himself or even walk. Even though he faced extreme challenges in his life he never gave up and overcame fear and depression by finding a love in sports. Despite his physical limitations he signed up for his schools wrestling team and he did lose all of his matches while at the same time getting better. He continued to work even hard then in his second season he won his first match but his challenges were not over.…
He remembers his father's rage. Years before Jason Roberts became a promising Canadian Paralympic athlete, his dad would arrive home after long, tough days at his construction job and start verbally abusing his young son. The taunts, the insults became more ferocious each day. Then, the harsh words turned into physical battering — sometimes resulting in trips to the hospital for Jason.…

Within the article, “Documenting Play” by Lynn Cohen, readers are able to understand how important play is in the early childhood setting. Cohen talks about situations that she has seen where children are participating in play and relating how those skills can help the child later in life. Cohen provides an example of play by giving the readers a dialogue of children playing doctor and patient. Cohen states, “Children are learning about the world of hospitals through play.” Most parents don’t understand the importance of play and see how it could pertain to children later in life.…
Once learning the basics about Cerebral Palsy (CP), I chose to dig deeper into the more modern diagnostic tools and treatments. As an aspiring Audiologist, I looked into tools I would one day use if I were on a case with an individual with CP and found an article about the Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) tool that is being used to determine hearing loss and likelihood of other related disabilities in tandem with CP. The study done showed significance in correlation with most other causes of CP and related disorders, and also proved helpful in determining prognosis of the individual with CP. After looking at the diagnostic angle, I then researched treatment options that are now being explored to help combat the neurological symptoms of CP…
The rapid economic development has impacted our life tremendously. Life is getting much easier and more convenient thanks technology and quick accessed information. However, we do not have everything for granted, we have been working so hard for it. As parents, we spend more time working to bring home money and at the same time dealing with the stress of keeping the job. Consequently, we spend less time with our family, especially with our children, to play with our children or read them a good story.…
When planning and conducting our study, the anonymity of the parents was our first and foremost top concern. The NASW Code of Ethics (NASW, 2008) responsibility number 1.07 discusses privacy and confidentiality. We are not asking for any identifying information other than the grade level of the child from the parents. No names or other identifying markers are to be placed on the survey, thereby ensuring it will be anonymous as possible. When the surveys are finished, they will be sealed in a manila envelope, only to be opened by a member of the Aurora University research team in an off-premise location.…

When most people hear “Irish-Catholic family” the first thing that comes to their mind is big. That’s exactly what my family is a big, tight-knit family. Growing up I’ve had plenty of role models, some not as great as others but still, they each taught me something. The two people that inspire me the most are my Pop-pop and my younger cousin Skyler. My Pop-pop survived a brain aneurysm and Skyler overcomes Cerebral Palsy everyday.…
Researches and many child development theorists suggests play to be an increasingly more varied and complex activity with significant influence on the physical, cognitive and social development of children (Kearns 2010). A balance between both types of play, structured and unstructured, can significantly benefit children in their development. Children attempt achieving pre-existing objectives set by an adult in structured play while establishing their own objectives in free/unstructured play (Pettersen 2013). Many researches have shown play to enhance children 's motor skills along with their physical well-being (Kearns 2010). In addition, many experiments conducted suggests that group play facilitate development of basic social skills including understanding and taking others ' perspectives into…
According to Vygotsky (1967,12), “Play is a transitional stage in this direction. At that critical moment when a stick-i.e., an object-becomes a pivot for severing the meaning of horse from a real horse, one of the basic psychological structures determining the child’s relationship to reality is radically altered”. Play is a very crucial part of an individual’s childhood. If a child does not get to play, he/she loses out on a lot of outdoor or indoor exploration and this hinders their learning process. Children pick up a lot through nature and I feel that is the healthiest way of learning.…
