Introduction
Cells need to carry on the same basic functions as we do to sustain life; the difference is cells do this with much smaller parts. These smaller structures that allow the cell to function are called organelles – “tiny organs.”
It’s only common sense that if you are able to relate things you learned in class to everyday things, you’ll remember it better. It’s not everyday that you and your friends sit around at Starbucks discussing the rough endoplasmic reticulum. However, you probably do discuss things like clothes, music, places to visit, etc… Therefore, your task in this assignment is to relate the different cell organelles to an everyday situation or thing using an analogy (a comparison between two …show more content…
For example, the centrioles play a major part in cell division. The boundary line of a house also divides the your land from your neighbors. The cell membrane surrounds the outside of the cell and lets certain things in and out of the cell. In the same way, the front door is opened and certain people are let inside of the house. The nucleus is the boss of the cell and contains the information needed to build proteins. In the same way, the basement is the foundation of the house and the house depends on it, just like the cell depends on the nucleus. The mitochondria powers the cell and provides energy for chemical reactions. In the same way, the furnace makes heat for the house to keep it warm. The cytoplasm is basically everything in a cell that is inside of the plasma membrane excluding the nucleus. It makes up most of the cell which the organelles float around in. The walls of the house contain everything inside of it, just like the cytoplasm contains all the organelles. The ribosomes are the part of the cell that makes the proteins. In the same way, the kitchen is where all the food is made to be eaten. The endoplasmic reticulum transports protein through the cell just like how the stairs are used to go up or down to different floors in the house. The vacuoles are where the food/nutrients and waste is stored just like how the fridge is used to store food in to keep it from spoiling. …show more content…
A neighborhood is made up of multiple houses. Multiple neighborhoods make up a city. A county has multiple cities in in. Multiple cities make up a state. A country is made up of many states. In the same way, a cell makes up tissue, tissue makes up an organ, an organ makes up an organ system, and an organ system make up an organism. A cell’s organelles all work together to play its role in a system. In the same way, the different parts of a house work together. Without a furnace, there would be no heat. Without a kitchen, there would be no food. Without one organelle, the overall system would crash because a house would not work. In an organism, if just one organelle crashes, the cell would stop working. That would result in the organism to stop working which would stop the whole system. Without the individual structures that make up a cell or a house, the overall system would stop working. With each of the organelles and house parts functioning, it will result in a working system.
