Celie In William Shakespeare's Othello '

Celie slipped into Mr. Cunnington’s classroom, tip-toed while hugging the wall, and glided towards Mr. Cunnington’s “executive” desk at the back right corner of the rectangular room. She paused, then crouched her petite figure behind the cool metal surface of the desk and leaned against the rugged wall that might’ve been white once upon a time, and sighed. It wasn’t everyday Celie made it this far, the trek across the room was fatal to anyone that arrived late. By now, Celie may have already gotten a week of detention that she never attended anyway because Mr. Cunnington never actually was reading his one million paged, dinosaur-age book. But not today! She waved at the full classroom (full except her empty desk), not expecting anything to happen since they all were silently working away at the warm up. It probably said, ”Write a 2,000 word essay in the following 15 minutes about Shakespeare’s “Othello”’ in his illegible cursive. Everyone grinned and waved back. Apparently, no one was working after all. Appearances can be deceiving. …show more content…
Cunnington looked up suddenly, and Celie startled with excuses on the tip of her tongue. Although, it was quite difficult to explain hiding behind his forbidden desk. “And just why exactly did everyone wave?” He questioned. “Well,” William said solemnly, “We all just had to stretch at the same time I suppose, I mean sitting in these wretched desks all day takes its toll.” Mr. Cunnington just raised is eyebrows and crossed his stick arms. William, who was one of the worst troublemakers, second only to Celie, hung his head in mock defeat. “It was a dare,” he sighed. Celie let out a relieved breath as Mr. Cunnington sat down heavily on his arthritis inflicted joints. William winked at her, and in answer Celie tugged out a screwdriver and winked right back, then got to work… Done! 30 minutes later, she leaned back as far as she dared and surveyed her handiwork. Satisfied, Celie nodded to her self and waited one more agonizing

This paper had all of his hard work from the past few months on it, so “it was hard for him to understand that he actually had to abandon it.” Abandoning the paper wasn’t an option so by instinct he climbed out the window to retrieve it. After he retrieved the paper and looked down below “of what lay below him; and he knew he had made a mistake in not making himself stare down at the street.” Frozen in pure fear from what he just saw, “he couldn’t bring himself to make the slightest movement.” He thought of the different scenarios of what were to happen if he were to fall and “he understood fully that he might actually be going to die.”…

There’s nothing high school students hate more than having to do school work over the summer. My classmates and I never had to do much. That is, until the summer before ninth grade. Upon receiving the list of potential literary works, students often based their selections on two criteria: which novel is the shortest and which one can be explained by his/her parents who’ve already read it. Assignments were distributed before the end of the prior academic year, and were to be completed based on their selection, in addition to the required novel.…

When his front gates open for the first time in four days, Su Zhe invited himself into his courtyard with Fei Liu close behind him. Su Zhe wore a fur-trimmed cloak again, but this one was light brown and looked thicker than the light blue one. A white jade pendant decorated the knot he'd tied his hair into and Su Zhe smiled as he bowed, "Your Highness." "Mister Su!" said Jingyan. He leaped up from the dais he'd been resting on to, his heart pounding with anticipation of something new finally happening in his residence, "Come inside to take a seat.…

Amelia Bedelia, the best-selling American children’s book published in 1963 by Peggy Parish, tells the story of a young girl who works as a maid for Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers. Humorously, Amelia misinterprets all of Mrs. Rodger’s instructions. For example, Amelia takes scissors and cuts up their hand towels when Mrs. Rodger’s list instructed her to, “Change the towels in the green bathroom” (Parish, 16). Upon their return, Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers excuse Amelia’s misunderstandings because she baked them a delicious pie.…

It was the second week of school junior year, in my third-period physics class. The bell rang shrilly, signaling the commencement of my own living hell. The teacher - a small, wiry man with a bit too much bite - sat in the back of the room. Grade book, and red pen in hand, he waited impatiently with a cold glare. The clock's ticking was loud in my ears and mixed with my rapid heartbeat.…

Stephen King once said, “We never know which lives we influence, or even when, or why.” This quote rings true for Vanessa Perrault, who maintains that the influence that she has been able to have on numerous students over the last six years is the primary reason that she still teaches. I met Vanessa for the first time in my sophomore year. At that time, she was working at Franklin Towne Charter High School in Philadelphia and was the director of the musicals at Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls, her alma mater, and the place where I would audition for their school musical. One of the reasons that I had decided to audition at Saint Hubert was because I had heard glowing reports from those who had previously acted under her.…

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…
