For the Yankee faithful, we learned of the struggles CC Sabathia has been dealing with. Certainly, we all would loved to have CC this postseason, but that didn’t matter compared to what he was dealing with off the field. Beyond an incredible player, CC is an incredible human that took immense courage to admit he needed help. The Yankees, and the entire baseball community, couldn’t be more proud of CC’s courage to address his need for help.
Unfortunately, some players don’t get the help before something truly awful happens. Recent events revealed the depths Lamar Odom has struggled with throughout his life. While news gives us hope that L.O. can return from his setback, it provides us all a moment to see these larger than life athletes as the humans they truly are. Tested four times randomly in the season, players must pass a test that looks for anything from amphetamine to steroid use. If a player fails, and depending on which drug it is, they can be fined, suspended or expelled from the game altogether. In some cases, those players can return to the game via reinstatement after at least one year if they are a first-year player. After which, the player must wait two years before applying for reinstatement. To gain reinstatement, both the NBA and NBPA must approve of the players return--often with an agreement to enter into random drug
