Space Shuttle Disaster Research Paper

The space shuttle disaster is one of the most devastating catastrophes, which took place on 28th of January 1986. The explosion of the vehicle started when the shuttle had some problems with its O-ring, and it wasn’t functioning the way it should work. The victims of this tragedy are five NASA Astronauts, and two mission specialists. The problem existed when the solid rocket motor failed at boosting its engine because of the O-ring which is responsible of connecting the parts of the solid rocket booster, which was not designed to experience a very cold weather. Consequently, the problem became worse, and caused a hole in the solid rocket booster allowing flame gases from the engines in the rocket booster reach the outer petrol tank, and the relative boosting motor, which led to the separation of both solid rocket booster of the shuttle. Moreover, there are two solid rocket boosters in the shuttle with seven parts in each solid rocket booster. The main two problems that caused the disaster was because of the O-ring that is attached to the solid rocket booster, and because of the freezing weather. As a result, a hole has been made in the solid rocket booster which flame gases can go through it and cause an explosion by reaching the petrol tank which separated the space shuttle into fragments. The lesson that can be learned from this disaster is that teamwork plays a vital role in solving a problem, and working as one team leads to rod of success. Being an honest engineer is an important thing because when there is something wrong with the design, the engineer himself should complain that, and write a report about the problems of the project which didn’t happened while constructing the space
