On September 11th, 2001, The United States was attacked by what president Bush stated was “A terrorist act”. This ultimately set the stage for conspiracy theorists to begin their thoughts on what they believed “really” happened. There are several theories regarding the September 11th attacks saying that these attacks were not brought on by Al- Qaeda. But, by factions within the United States, the main ones caused the most question. A few of them being that inside traders were aware of the attack before it happened, that the air defense was told to “stand down”, and finally that the airplanes didn’t cause the collapse of the building, but was caused by explosives set to go off at the time of impact. These are a few of the numerous conspiracy …show more content…
Investopedia defines put option as “…an option contract giving the owner the right, but not the obligation, to sell a specified amount of an underlying security at a specified price within a specified time’. A “put” becomes profitable as the original price of the underlying stock depreciates (Investopedia). Reinsurance companies such as: Munich Re and AXA Group are companies that coincidently had a spike in purchases of put stocks, as well. In fact, these companies paid out billions for the attack. Other Financial service companies also had spikes in purchases of their stock. The three major ones being Merrill Lynch & Company, Morgan Stanley, and the Bank of America. Each of these companies profited massively from the loss of 9/11. Although initially it may have appeared as if each of these companies suffered from the attacks, they actually profited from what occurred. Although the United and American airlines stock plummeted. 9-11 Research.com explains how unknown investors profited vastly from a financial derivative that increased in value when a stock goes down. The military was on full alert once the announcement came out regarding the towers being destroyed by jets. The North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) had been notified regarding American Airlines Flight 77, but did not send any pilots up in the air until several minutes after. According to Victor Thorn, author of “Who Commanded our Air Force to 'Stand Down' on 911”, there are established procedures that are put in place regarding planes that change their course. Federal law MANDATES states that “the Air Force must dispatch a plane to investigate why a certain craft has strayed from its predestined route” (Thorn). The President of the United States can give orders to shoot an airliner if it is seen as a threat, and are required to investigate in a timely manner before incidents occur. But, oddly enough, the reason Military jets were not sent out immediately as they should have been, is due to only 14 jets being active from the 48 states who were aware of the unfolding events. The North American Air Defense Command was not automatically alerted of the missing planes. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had to call NORAD several times to inform them of the situation. Unfortunately, NORAD nor the FAA responded in a timely manner thus creating the time lag and ultimately the destruction of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight

“Debunking the 9/11 Myths: Special Report” and “The Conspiracy Industry: Afterword to PM Expanded Investigation” are two articles both written for the Popular Mechanics magazine by James B. Meigs, the latter being written in 2006, one year after the former. “Debunking the 9/11 Myths: Special Report” is an in-depth analysis of conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks and the factual evidence that refutes these theories. “The Afterword” is a reflective piece that describes the uprising of the conspiracy theory community after the first article was published, and then poses the argument as to why conspiracy theorists have an “illusion of coherence”. The first article published by Meigs garnered a lot of attention from the conspiracy theory…

In this case, skeptics of 9/11 believe that the government planned the “plane crash” for the reason of going to war with Iraq and Afghanistan. “In this sense [conspiracy theory] 9/11 is no different from the assassination of John F. Flight UA 93 did not crash into the field, because if so there would have been evidence of the plane. UA 93 was simply shot down by the fighter jets. Many people has tried to mimic the event and try to see and prove if this theory is true or not.
