In the play, there are several incidents that result in the deaths of the two main characters, Romeo and Juliet. Often, people have debated whether Friar Lawrence is to blame for the tragic events which unfold in the play. Three main arguments prove this statement. Firstly he marries Romeo and Juliet knowing they have only known each other for a couple of hours and the friar is not thinking of the repercussions at all. The Capulet family believe that Juliet is dead however Friar Lawrence has come up with a plan so that Juliet does not have to marry Paris, resulting in Juliet and Romeo being with each other in Mantua. In act 4 Scene 1 Line 89-120 the friar tells Juliet the plan to fake her death. To summarise Friars plan, Juliet has to give consent to marry Paris on Thursday and drink a special potion which will make her appear dead. Then Juliet will wake up 42 hours later in the Capulet’s tomb where Friar Lawrence will be waiting accompanied by Romeo. Although the friar is trying to help Juliet he acts impulsively. Throughout the plan there are many factors that could result in the plan being a failure. For one, if the Friar made the potion too strong for Juliet, she could be poisoned. Secondly, if a member of the Capulet family see Juliet alive there will be great confusion and scrutiny involving the Capulets and Friar Lawrence. Also there are too many factors that are out of Friars Lawrence’s control. The Friar’s plan causes Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves. A more suitable course of action is that Friar Lawrence should come clean with Juliet's parents and explain why Juliet and Paris cannot marry. Although this would cause Capulet and Lady Capulet to become irate and most likely disown her, it would cause Friar Lawrence to not rely so heavily on a plan that can cause many

However Friar Lawrence is always the one who bring the crisis to a boil. Ultimately Friar Lawrence gave them a death wish from a potion that would end their lives. I fear it is " (4.3.25-28).Friar Lawrence's plan to give Juliet the vial was foolish, it was a sin for Friar to marry someone who was already married…

Juliet pays a visit to the Friar, who comes up with a plan for Juliet to fake her death with a sleeping poison. When Juliet asks the Friar to help her break free from her wedding with Paris, he replies that: "If, rather than to marry County Paris, Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself; Then it is likely thou wilt undertake A thing like death to elude away this shame, That cop'st with death himself to scrape from it; And, if thou darest, I'll give thee remedy." Once more, Friar Laurence devises an ineffectual plan by sending a letter to Romeo. He entrusts another friar with an important letter, that holds both Juliet and Romeos’ lives at stake. Evidently, the concoction of Friar Laurence’s plan was unsuccessful as Romeo did not follow the plan. The plan was for Romeo to come to the crypt, where Juliet and Friar Laurence would be waiting. From there, Romeo and Juliet would ride to Mantua and live the life they desire.…

When we know what to do or are stuck in a situation, we turn to an authority figure for help. That is exactly what Juliet did, turned to Friar Lawrence for help but Friar used his authority for the wrong reasons. I feel the problem with Friar Lawrence’s decision is that it was deceptive and acts of deception are more likely to fall through and cause damage rather than acts of forthrightness. Even after Mercutio 's death and Romeo 's banishment, Friar Lawrence decided that he will continue to attempt to keep Romeo and Juliet together by creating a potion that would help fake Juliet’s death. Personally, the plan he concocted for this, however, was short-sighted, poorly thought out, risky and was as effective as riding a bike with a flat tyre.…

Is it fate that kills lovers? Or was it Friar Lawrence who essentially tried ending the feud between the families? Or does the blame land on William Shakespeare himself for writing the tragic story? It is inevitable that the death of these star crossed lovers in Shakespeare’s well known “Romeo and Juliet” written in 1595 is due to Romeo himself, for he was overdramatic, highly impulsive and lacked in foresight.…

Thus, Friar Laurence had the option to choose a safer plan that that would have accomplished the same goal of reuniting Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence although intended to do good, would have been better off if he advised Juliet to run away to be with Romeo instead of devising an intricate plan. His plan even if Romeo did receive the letter it still had the potential to end very badly. It endangered the life of Juliet by encouraging her to take a vile of diluted poison and then sit in a tomb where should could suffocate if not gotten in time. Even though Lord Capulet could be considered responsible for the death of the lovers, Friar Laurence is mostly to blame because of his lack of his bad decision to marry them and his unsuccessful plan to rejoin the couple, ultimately leading to the tragic deaths of Romeo…
