Stress within the workplace occurs in nearly all organizations on some level. Not all employees have a high level of stress within their job. Likewise, not all stress has a negative connotation. Some stressors can serve to be motivators for employees to achieve goals that have been set by themselves or others. Olympic athletes use stress as positive enforcement. When the challenge arises for the athlete to do their best and be the best in competition with the best around the world, they use this stress to push their minds and bodies to do what they never thought possible in order to win the medal they are seeking. Furthermore, there are the bad kind of stresses as well. Stress can be caused from a vast variety of things. The three categories …show more content…
(Reynolds, 2016) Personal factors that might bring stress onto one’s life could include economic problems, family issues, and inherent personality characteristics. (Robbins & Judge, 2009) Family issues could include marital problem, problems with children, or any other type of relationship problems. Economic problems include financial woes. Additionally, some people are just prone to stress based on their personality problems, thus having inherent personality characteristics making them stress. Recently I have had several personal stressor in my life, including sending my children back to school, legal issues with my ex-husband, and health issues. Although none of those issues directly relate to my job tasks, sometimes those stressors seem to roll over onto the job. If an individual’s mind is preoccupied with the stresses they are dealing with at home, they may find it hard to focus at work, or may even call out of work more …show more content…
(Fischer, 2009) By doing these things leaders can help to alleviate some of the workplace stresses that employees may be experiencing. This is important because stress can have consequences such as physiological symptoms, psychological symptoms, and behavioral symptoms. Physiological symptoms associated with stress could include increased blood pressure and/or changed in metabolism. Psychological symptoms could include anxiety, procrastination, or boredom. Behavioral symptoms could include turnover, changes in eating habits, absenteeism, or sleep
