Concussions in sports have become a significant problem, there is recent headlines and reports about the effects and consequences of returning to play too soon and also researches about the long-term effects of the damage from the concussion. There are about 200,000 people who suffer from concussions a year while playing sports. Athletes with concussions who continue to play will never fully heal because the key to healing is rest, physical and mental. The blows to the head can cause neurological impairments that typically resolve unpremeditatedly. Athletes who suffer from concussions in sports will constantly cause trauma to their brain unless they don’t continue to play because a concussion can cause permanent damage to the brain, It can lead to serious diseases, and many athletes have died because of concussions when they continue to play.

The age does make a difference for the simple fact that “young athletes are more at risk for another concussion, especially if he is back out on the field before he is fully recovered” (Jersey Basement). Coaches of sports teams of all ages need to make sure the athlete is cleared by the doctor to play before they are sent back on the field.
