The Cat’s Meow

The Felis Catus, or cat, is anything but tedious; in fact, the cat is the most riveting subjects. They vary in different shapes, sizes, and breeds. These beautiful and small animals resembling its much larger ancestors are covered in soft, silky fur, as they contain a short, rounded head, erect triangular ears, large vivid eyes that have the ability to see in the dark, and vertical-slit pupils. In addition, they contain sharp claws that are hidden in fleshy pads and 26-30 teeth- this is why their Physical Anatomy is so compelling. The cat slumbers up to 12- 16 hours, even 20 hours a day, sleeping 70% of its life (Marshall). This lets the cats conserve more energy than any other animal. They establish territories that are vast in size, which includes rubbing their face against objects. The sociability in these felines varies, as they communicate in various ways, such as purring, trilling, hissing, growling or snarling, even grunting. They have over 100 different types of vocalizations, but are generally silent. The types of body languages they possess, include their position of their ears and tail, relaxation of the whole body, and the kneading of the paws, are all indicators of mood. A cat’s purr may be a form of self-healing, as it can be a sign of nervousness as well as contentment. The purr can even repair the bones and muscles in the cat. Next, the cat can communicate by nose-to-nose interactions and grooming. A cat spends a considerable amount of time cleaning their coats to keep it clean- this is to usually get your scent off of them.The backwards-facing spines of the cat's tongue, which are called papillae, containing keratin which makes them rigid, almost like a hairbrush.
