In the article we learn about the good things in having a free community college as well as the negative parts of it. (Student Loan Hero) “Americans owe nearly 1.3 trillion dollars of debt in student loans” so that leave them to pay a debt for almost all of their life. But when college tuition cost is lowered then there’s a possibility that it can raise taxes because if herd of the quote “No free lunch” meaning there is always going to be someone who pays for stuff when the price is lowered then that raise the prices or taxes then that money will be used for someone else education even though they are not going to college. Then the instructors will get paid less since the price of college tuition has been cut so that…

Revamping Community College In the article “Revamping Community Colleges to Improve Graduation Rates” it talks about ways that people of education are working to help improve the graduation rate. While I am all for more people going to college and getting degrees, I do not agree with the changes that the article suggests. One of the changes that they are trying to enforce is the idea of free college. In the article, it states that “Bills are pending to carry out President Obama’s America’s College Promise proposal to make community colleges free to responsible high school graduates.”…

In the article “As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea” by Joanne Jacobs published in February 23, 2015, Jacob explains the idea of several resources and they all have different opinions but what I agree with is that of the ones that are against it. At the time that article was written I was in my second semester of my junior year thus I really didn’t care much, but now that I am going to a university next semester I care deeply. As recieved my acceptances I allowed the price determine my decision. I looked at the UC and there tuition was around $30,000 then I look at the CSU and they were at $6,000 a big difference but it’s still a lot of money, thus when they advocate in…

With the 2016 election drawing closer, there are many important issues being debated in the current political atmosphere. One of these issues is the topic of free college, in which the current presidential candidates largely disagree in their stances. There are many different interpretations of what free college means - from tuition subsidies to living grants - but overall, the main disagreement is over how effective free college is and how it should be implemented. An article in New Republic, “The Case Against Free College” by Matt Bruenig, discusses this topic. The article justifiably asserts the idea that free college would not benefit those it intends to help and would not serve an egalitarian…

Though, this solution that seems to do all good still has negatives. Just like its opposing argument why college should not be free has various points which support its claims but there are also reasons why it is not an entirely good decision as well. This is why college should neither be free or extremely expensive but it should be cheaper so that more students will have the opportunity to go to college and the students going already won’t have to deal with the insane price of an…

New Republic is opposed to it saying “The main problem with free college is that most students come from disproportionately well-off backgrounds and already enjoy disproportionately well-off futures, which makes them relatively uncompelling targets for public transfers.” Many disagree, saying “College should be free to all students. Just like students have a right to elementary and secondary education, students should have a right to obtain higher education. If a person has a desire to learn more, they should not be forced to stop learning after high school due to a lack of money or connections” (Academic OneFile). If we made college free for everyone we would be funding the rich. Families that have the money to pay for some or all of the cost of a college education might choose instead to take advantage of free college at a public institution. Amelia Josephson said, “In effect, the government and taxpayers would be subsidizing the rich. Critics of free college who point to this drawback often argue that a more targeted reform subsidizing college for the poor and the middle class would make more sense. They also point to the example of Brazil, a country with free college where wealthy students reap a lot of the benefits of tuition-free education at public universities.”…
