Cataract Surgery Cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye or its surrounding transparent membrane that obstruct the passage of light and leads to gradual blurred vision. Cataract is the most common eye diseases treatable. Through a rapid intervention under local anesthesia, an artificial lens is implanted foldable, resulting in recovery of vision, often no longer needed glasses. The occurrence of cataract increases with age, affecting approximately 70% of white individuals 80 years and older. Surgery is the only curative treatment and is often performed under local anesthesia. The nurse has an important role in preoperative preparation of a patient who will go through a cataract surgery, especially if he/she is an old adult.

Wear clean, loose-fitting clothing on the day of your cataract surgery.

- before you leave, the nurse will discuss your post-surgery instructions with you and show you how to use the eye drops. We will also schedule a number of other postoperative visits for you.
you will leave the clinic with a sterile dressing on eye surgery. You can remove the dressing when starts to put eye drops. at home, you must sit as, eat something light, can watch television with the other eye (the surgery being bandaged), and rest. It is preferable not to sleep on the operated eye. If you have pain, which is unlikely, it may take a acetaminophen analgesic type, or equivalent. DO NOT touch the dressing and Do Not press on the eye! avoid heavy lifting, straining, and bending at the waist. ensure room environment is safe with adequate lighting and furniture moved toward the walls remove all rugs, and objects that could be potentially hazardous.
- you should wear sunglasses to reduce glare. Advise family to use contrasting bright colors in household furnishings.
