The camp you will be staying at is off the coast of Southern California and is on the North Western side of Catalina. It is 22 miles from Los Angeles which is where you board the ship that takes you to Catalina. When you are outside (or sometimes even when you are inside), the temperature is normally really warm and sometimes humid so I would suggest bringing and applying sunscreen in the morning and after every meal. Some of the native plants are eucalyptus trees, pine trees, moss, and cherry trees. The cherries that are on Catalina Island are different than what we are used to. The cherries on Catalina Island have a very big pit and very little meat and the cherries that we eat have lots of meat and a very small pit. This is because we like to eat the meat not the pit, and animals like birds and squirrels like to eat the pit, not the meat.
If you come to this camp, believe me, you will not be bored. There are so many things to do, for example, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, swimming and lots of classes. You will learn about vertebrates, invertebrates, how pollution is harming the Earth, different plants and animals, and different habitats that are homes to those plants and animals. When you are kayaking, if you look down into the water, you will be able to see a few fish, mostly Garibaldi, because they are bright orange. After you finish kayaking, there is a contest to see who can stand up the longest on their kayak. Just warning you, you WILL get wet, and if you have Stinger as your counselor, be prepared to fall in the water. Snorkeling is also really fun.
