Studying the reaction of the enzyme catalase in different temperatures
The purpose of this experiment was to measure the speed and the effectiveness of the enzyme catalase. The enzyme catalase purpose is to break down harmful substances and turn them into oxygen and water. The substance in this environment was hydrogen peroxide, and the study was to see how well the chicken liver would work if it was in a boiled environment, room temperature environment, an acid immersed environment and a basic environment.
The hypothesis for the:
Chicken Liver in Room Temperature: The hypothesis was that there will be a reaction. The chicken liver enzyme catalase only works when the liver itself is at a stable internal temperature.
Chicken Liver in a Boiled Temperature: The hypothesis was that there will not be a reaction. Due to the chicken liver being in a boiling environment, the enzyme in the liver will have already been denatured.
Chicken Liver in an Acid environment: The hypothesis was that there will be a reaction. Since the chicken

For the boiled environment, after adding the hydrogen peroxide to the chicken liver, the time for the reaction to occur was eighteen seconds, and the final height of the bubbles was one inch. The pH was 6. For the acid immersed environment, after adding the hydrogen peroxide to the chicken liver, the time for the reaction to occur was over 30 seconds, and the final height of the bubbles was zero inches. The pH was 0. For the based immersed environment, after adding the hydrogen peroxide to the chicken liver, the time for the reaction to occur was 5 seconds, and the final height of the bubbles was one inch. The pH was 9. For the room temperature environment, after adding the hydrogen peroxide to the chicken liver, the time for the reaction to occur was 0.5 seconds, and the final height of the bubbles was 5.5 inches. The pH was

Enzymes are protein molecules that significantly speed up the rate of virtually all of the chemical reactions that take place within the cell. In the following lab was to examine an enzyme that is found in pineapples. That enzyme is bromelain its breaks down protein into their protein into their amino acid by a process of hydrolysis. They are found in tropical areas like Hawaii, Thailand, and Brazil. For the first experiment the hypothesis was that the when gelatin was added to the water, fresh pineapple juice, and canned pineapple juice and submerged into the ice chest the solutions would turn into Jell-O.…

Aim: This is an investigation to establish the effect of different temperatures (from 0°C -100°C) on the production of oxygen gas in a potato catalase reaction, using hydrogen peroxide as a substrate. The oxygen gas produced will be measured using a gas pressure sensor. Introduction: Enzymes are proteins, known as biological catalysts that increase the rate of reaction in a biochemical reaction without being chemically altered.…

The substrate in this reaction is the H2O2. The purpose of this lab is to determine how temperature, pH, boiling, and hydroxylamine effected the activity of the enzyme, peroxidase. Temperature can change the speed with which the substrate and enzyme bind together. When temperatures are higher they move at faster speeds, which could cause the hydrogen bonds to break. The pH values can change the 3D shape of the proteins and, therefore, influence how well the substrate and enzyme bind together.…

The specificity of enzymes helps make them powerful tools in nature; they are allowed to form enzyme-substrate complexes. (Bioinfo.org.cn, 2015) Reaction rates controlled by enzyme can be measured using experimental methods where the factors such as enzyme, pH and temperature can be studied. These results can be…

The experiment began with a reaction of a 1cm3 cube of lamb liver and 5mL of hydrogen peroxide solution being put in test tubes in a beaker filled with 10℃ water until the temperatures of the liver and hydrogen peroxide were 10℃ also. The liver was put into a 100mL measuring cylinder and the hydrogen peroxide was also poured in as the timer was started. After twenty seconds, several millilitres of froth had been produced from the chemical concoction. This froth was recorded into a results table, and the previous steps were repeated but with increasing temperature increments of 10℃ until 50℃. After carefully completing the experiment, the final results obtained by measuring the volume of the froth produced after 20 seconds, were recorded in a table - see Table 1, and able to be observed in a graph, see Figure 7.…

Our cells usually make toxic byproducts however they use enzymes to break them down into harmless chemicals. When an excess amount of H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) is formed in the cell during metabolism/cell respiration catalase enzymes are utilized to break down the toxic chemical into oxygen gas and water. An experiment was conducted was to see if the Ph level affected the rate of which the catalase broke down hydrogen peroxide. A hypothesis was created, which stated that if the ph was lower than the control than the rate of hydrogen peroxide decomposition would be greater. In the experiment there were three trials, a control, a high level ph, and a low level…

In this part of the lab, we pour 20 mL of Hydrogen Peroxide and 1 mL of yeast catalase in the reaction chamber and then submerge it in the water bath. After it was done, it can be concluded that the gas levels increased because when we first started timing it, the gas levels were at 76, but as time went by, the gas levels started to increase and in the end of the last interval, the gas level increased all the way up to 100. This result occurred because there were many active sites that were empty for the substrate to bind to and since they binded to the active sites, it started increasing a lot at the beginning. However, when the active sites started getting more occupied, the substrate could not bind to as much active sites, so the gas levels started to increase alittle less as time went on and in the end, there was no active sites that were…

The enzyme testing had seven trials and the temperature testing had six trials. For both, equal amounts of liver and hydrogen peroxide were measured out for each trial. Buffers were placed in the hydrogen peroxide in order to alter pH levels for each trial. The buffers we used were buffer four, buffer six, buffer eight, and buffer ten. We mixed the buffers to achieve intermediate pH levels such as pH 3, pH 5, and pH…

However, this was not the case in the experiment, meaning this part of the hypothesis is rejected. In fact, at a pH of 7, the enzyme activity has already begun to decrease. Rather, the optimal pH for enzyme activity was at a pH between 5 and 6. The first part of the hypothesis (that is pH affects enzymes) fails to reject because pH did affect enzyme…

Discussion In this study, the Catechol enzyme was studied under the conditions of varying pH, temperature, substrate concentration, and enzyme concentration. In Figure 1, the data suggested that the trend was neither directly nor inversely proportional, but the highest activity rate was at 24°C. Most enzymes denatured at higher temperatures of approximately 40°C, which led to the inability to see any color change (Helms et al., 1998). At lower temperatures, the enzyme was somewhat efficient because molecules move slower at lower temperatures, so enzymes lost productivity.…
