The caste system has been playing a very vital role in India. Even in the present 21st century also the Indian social structure is completely based on the caste system. Apparently it plays a critical role in Indian society. The caste system is basically derived from Hindu society and it has been practised since 1000- 1500 B.C. in Hindu society particularly. Basically the Hindu society has been divided in to four varna or caste in a typical hierarchical order, with in the hierarchy the top position is given to the Brahmins followed by the Kshyatriyas, Vaisyas and at the bottom the Shudras respectively. They have to suffer in the society for the basic things such as they are not allowed to entry in the temples, they cannot drew water from upper-castes’ wells, they cannot access education, they cannot have food in same table or dining hall with upper caste people, lower caste people cannot merry upper caste people and so on. In varna system highest three classes, Brahmin, Kshatriya and vaisiyas are consider ‘twice born’according to Hindu script, which means they are allowed to celebrate or participate in Hindu ceremony and are consider as more ‘pure’ then the shudra and ‘untouchables’ or ‘Dalit’s’. According to the National Crime Record Bureau in the year of 2000, there were 25456 numbers of crimes were committed against the Dalit people. The crime against Dalit is increasing within the government agencies who are supposed to protect the Dalits from such crimes. The governmental formal institutions like the police, carrier officials and the village council also support the caste system and typically police also ask for bribe which is not possible for the untouchables since they are economically, socially, politically and as well as mentally very downtrodden .
