In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Cassie a nine year old girl living with her three brothers, her Mom & Dad, her “Big Ma”, and her Dad’s friend Mr.Morrison. Cassie and her brothers Stacey, Little Man, and Christopher John tend to get into a lot of mischief including crashing buses, saying things others didn’t want to hear, and most of all doing anything to “get under the skin” of the other people in their community, people like Mr. Granger and the Simms family. Not understanding, Cassie does everything she can to challenge the people who believe that she and people like her are below them. When trouble comes they always do everything they can to stop it. I liked how well the book developed along the way and how well the characters were developed like how Big Ma, Cassie’s Grandma, went over the past with Cassie when they were sitting by the lake by their house. “Big Ma surveyed the clearing without a word, then, stepping around the rotting trees, she made her way to the pond and sat down on one of them. I sat close beside her and waited for her to speak. After a while she shook her head and said: “I’m sho’ glad your grandpa never had to see none of this. He dearly loved these here old trees. Him and me, we used to come down here early mornin’s or just ‘fore the sun was ‘bout set and just sit and talk. He used to call this place him thinkin’ spot and he called that old pond there Caroline, after me.””I also liked how the Logan kids were ALWAYS getting into mischief because it kind of reminds me of how my own siblings are… well in a way i guess, my siblings aren’t going around crashing buses but you get what i mean. “The bus ratteled up the road, though not as quickly as we had hoped.
