Evaluation of learning
Learning objective that Tina Johnson would meet by the end of discharge.
1. Tina Johnson would be able to identify symptoms of low blood sugar and how to raise it.
2. Tina Johnson would be able to identify asthma triggers, how to avoid them and how to treat an asthma attack.
The content evaluation can be used for the first objective. Content evaluation allows the nurse to establish if the patient is able to comprehend the teaching provided and apply in real situations (Bastable, 2014). Prior to evaluation, the patients would be provided with reading material regarding the condition, in this case diabetes mellitus type two (DMT2). Time retrains would allow nurse to have a return verbal statement provided by the patient as confirmation of understanding of the teaching. In this case, the patient would be asked to recall the symptoms of low blood sugar and ways to boost it. This educational approach based on information that patient obtains and remember from materials provided. Tina is young woman and should be able to read and express verbally own interpretation of symptoms, consequences, methods to change it and how important it is. Emotional toll of being diagnosed with condition that require a lifetime commitment to control it can be overwhelming for a patient, like

The amount of information provided and required life adjustments can be overwhelming, and considering Tina Johnson age and life priorities, she might not realize the importance of teaching provided. According to studies, the retention of education provided in acute care setting recall is low and estimated at 20-40% and half of of retaining information is incorrect (McBride & Andrews, 2013). Knowing this fact and from adding personal experience, it would be very crucial for the nurse to establish rapport with patient and be able to deliver the message and encourage self-learning
