The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is the organization that accredits laboratory and testing personnel, “the principal professional organization for board-certified pathologists” (Gartee, 2011, pg. 46). The College of American Pathologists performs many activities such as accrediting medical laboratories and making sure that caregivers performing the testing and using the required medical devices are appropriately trained and qualified to perform those testing requirements (Gartee, 2011). By educating laboratory staff, setting standards for laboratory processes, and confirming that laboratories follow regulatory requirements, the accreditation program in place by the College of American Pathologists expects to meet its goal of improving
