During class, we had the discussion over the beliefs Christians have about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity who takes everything God has for us and brings it to us. In the Bible, we find that there are five truths about God which are known as there is one God, the Father is God, Jesus is God, the Holy Spirit is God, and the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct persons (UCF Class Discussion, 11/10/16). The Holy Spirit frees us from sin, along with helping us understand what God brings to us. In class, we studied two different case studies, where the questions of who the Holy Spirit is and how does it work. “The Spirit is the power of transformation from non-being to being, from the old to the new, from enslavement to the powers of sin and death to a new life in communion with God and others (Bird, 190).” The Holy Spirit gives us the chance to grow closer to God and by ignoring it we miss out on our salvation. If churches decide to ignore the Holy Spirit, they are missing out on the chance of being transformed and living eternally through God. “The Spirit is the one who ‘gives life’ by uniting us with Christ (Bird,190).” The Holy Spirit is the one who united us with Christ to help us understand what he has in store for us. If churches do not believe in the Holy Spirit, then they are neglecting to thank God for his gifts and forgiveness. “The Holy Spirit is a genuine person that is conscious and able to have a relationship with others (Bird, 186).” When having a relationship with someone it is important that we see them and understand them correctly. The holy Spirit can change at any time and it is easy to get to know him because we can talk to him, ask for his help, and most importantly listen to what he say. In order to understand who God is, we need to understand the divinity of the Holy Spirit’s personhood. “The Spirit is closely connected to our experience of God’s love since Paul told the Romans that ‘God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us (Bird,183). Christians believe that God’s love was a gift to us through the Holy Spirit in order for us to experience it in ways we could not if the Holy Spirit did not exist.
