Most institutions, have policies and procedures established for faculty to handle this particular incident which contain statements such as: “make sure it’s really academic dishonesty; collect evidence; follow institutional and classroom procedures; and lastly if permissible, deal with isolated instances on an informal in-class basis, but be sure to observe all class and institutional procedures” (Shelbycearley.files.wordpress.com, 2017). Professor Bella failed to do any of the above procedures in either instance. Instead of meeting with Miss Young and addressing the issues in question, I believe that he made his own decision to not follow the institution’s stated policies and procedures and elevated the abuse issue to the next level without any valid evidence. On the issue of academic dishonesty he acted somewhat according to institutional procedures in that he wrote her a letter that stated that the topic of her paper was not “appropriate for the course”, and that “the paper might have been written for another course or by someone else” because in his opinion “the style of presentation in your paper is very different from the work in your examination.” Professor Bella then wrote “Please consider my comments, and decide if …show more content…
Child abuse and neglect are pervasive societal problems that many children experience on a daily basis so recognizing the need to protect children who may be involved in such abusive situations and to deter additional incidences, government have enacted legislation, which mandates all adult persons who have knowledge or reasonable suspicion of such abuse to report the same to the required authorities. As educators of any age group it is our duty to report suspected abuse, as it should be any citizen. However, educators also owe it to their students with whom they are in contact with, whether it be face to face or online, to confer with them and let them be aware of what is thought and happening concerning the students
