Leo is a 14 year old Hispanic/African American male that has been referred to the agency for Wraparound services due to the severity of his issues by the Department of Children and Family Services. Leo has had a case open with the Department since he has been 9 years old. Leo has a sibling who is also identified in need of intensive services due to the trauma that they have both experienced in their early youth.
This client has been diagnosed with Unspecified Mood Disorder with chronic PTSD and ODD. Currently he is on a multitude of medications to assist him with coping with daily life. He is on Deprakote, Zyprexa, Tenex, Trazadone and Benzotrapine. At least one of the medications is to assist him with getting to sleep at night, as this …show more content…
Both of his parents come from large families of five or more kids. His biological mother was in a single parent home with her mother who was mentally ill and not taking her medication on a regular basis. Her mother was often delusional and her actions were bizarre. The children were taken away from the mother when she was unable to take care of the kids. Bio mother was placed into foster care and became suicidal. Mother was hospitalized more than once. After she left the hospital she began running away from the foster home. Mother was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and does not take her medication at this time. Police kept picking her up and the judge placed her in her father’s home where she stayed until she became pregnant with her first child.
Leo’s biological father also had involvement with the child welfare system when he was a child. The father and his 12 other siblings had suspected child abuse reports filed which stated there was general neglect in the home and emotional abuse. Father was never removed from the home. During his teen years he had some involvement in the juvenile justice system. He also reportedly started using drugs at this …show more content…
Leo has been given many different coping skills so he has more than one to apply if the situation arises. He’s also been given coping skills that he can use outside of the house to assist him when he’s in the community. If his coping skills fail he’s given some space. He hasn’t run into traffic for approximately a month now. He is able to sit in meetings without blowing up; he’s communicating more about how he’s feeling in the moment. Leo is given clear boundaries.
Since this client has had a lot of trauma he’s very difficult to work with. He can be emotionally draining for his team. The caregiver calls regularly to complain about how things are being handled. Leo however, has shown improvement and that’s what the team is holding onto. They are unafraid to go see him because they believe their work is assisting him to make good decisions. The team has to have periodic meetings to sit down and discuss where we are going and how we are feeling in the moment. Sometimes it’s important to vent about what is going on in the
