Michael Vick, Quanis Phillips and Davon Boddie grew up in a tough neighborhood and were exposed to violence. Sports was one distraction that kept children out of trouble. Vick, Phillips, and Broddie participated in football at a young age. Although football was a diversion from direct noxious touch, the children still participated in noxious touch because of the aggressive nature of football. In addition, Vick lacked loving touch during his childhood. Michael Boddie, Vick’s father, was rarely around and struggled with drug abuse. One of the negative influences that Vick received from growing up in the neighborhood was exposure to dog fighting. Tony Taylor, a neighborhood friend, lured Vick into dog fighting at age seven; by the age of 12, Vick became an active participant (Gorant, 2011). The lack of loving touch could have contributed to the perpetrator’s act of noxious touch which had negative effects to the dog’s mental and physical health. Common steps for helping victims recover from noxious touch include giving loving touch, getting adjusted to the surroundings, and slowly reintegrating into what is considered a normal dog life. The potential for recovery differs for each of the dogs’ conditions, and unfortunately not every dog is able to recover.
