1. INTRODUCTION
I am a chemical engineer working for Sasol co. . The specialised scope of the company’s product portfolio include manufacturing of fuels, oils, chemical, polymers, fertilizers, explosives and gas. I am instructed to generate 5 ideas for Sasol and determine the best product (line) among them through the multi factor decision making process. I am instructed to use the AHP excel spreadsheet picking 4 criteria of my choice to evaluate the ideas.

Nano-engineering can be employed in Sasol co. to improve their existing polymer product line. This would not only benefit the company but would also increase clients’ product satisfaction. Incorporation of different nanoreinforcements such as layered silicate clays, carbon nanotubes, nanofibers and silica nanoparticles into elastomers significantly enhances their mechanical, thermal, dynamic mechanical and barrier properties. Noticeable improvements in adhesion, rheological and processing behaviour can also be seen. (Anandhan & Bandyopadhyay, 2011).

Nanocomposites are composites in which at least one of the phases shows particle dimensions in the nanometer range (Anandhan & Bandyopadhyay, 2011). Nanoscale building blocks are individually exceptionally strong because they are close to ideal, defect-free materials. There are three methods to prepare nanocomposites, they are: solution casting, melt blending and in-situ polymerization. Polymer nanocomposites for various applications could be synthesized by proper selection of matrix, nanoreinforcement, synthesis method and surface modification of polymers. (Paul & Robeson,

There is a growing market for E85 fuel (85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline) for use in flexible fuel vehicles.
Flexible fuel vehicles automotives that can use any level of ethanol up to 85 percent. They have specially build fuel system components designed to be compatible with higher ethanol concentrations. Ethanol is blended with diesel to lessen strain of lead on the environmental. This formulated blend is known as "E-Diesel", and is also a replacement for leaded aviation gasoline in small aircraft (California Energy Commission, 2016).
Ethanol has a lower energy content than gasoline, thus ethanol has a lower gallon to mileage rating than gasoline. One-third more ethanol is required to travel the same distance as on gasoline. But other ethanol fuel characteristics offer valuable benefits. This including a high octane rating, result in increased engine efficiency and performance (California Energy Commission,

After resin impregnation in the TBC, the gel was stretched in the same way as the BC and the mechanical properties of the final composites were investigated to understand the efficacy of the stretching process. It is well-known that porosity should be reduced as much as possible in a composite material since the stress transfer between fiber and resin is negatively influenced by the pores.[24] The porosity in the composites was calculated according to the equation: Porosity=(1-ρ_c/(w_f ρ_f+w_r ρ_r ))×100% , where ρc, ρf, ρr, wf, and wr are the bulk density of composite, density of TBC, density of SPI, weight fraction of TBC, and weight fraction of SPI, respectively.[25] The porosities in both composites were calculated to be in an acceptable range of 2.0-3.5%.…

To what extent did the invention and development of the automobile affect the United States’ engagement in increasing fuel efficiency? A: Plan of The Investigation. The objective of this investigation is to research the question of the development of the automobile’s influence on fuel efficiency relative to the whole of United States fuel efficiency on a residential, commercial, and industrial scale. Fuel is defined by Merriam Webster as “a material (such as coal, oil, or gas) that is burned to produce heat or power”, and it will be used as such along the length of this investigation.…

Are EPA Diesel Emission regulations regulating Truck owners? As a result of EPA regulations, today’s diesel engines are more efficient than ever before seen in large and midsized trucks. Certain regulations restrict truck owners from using certain truck models, because of excess diesel emission. Increasing drastically as technology improves, cars and trucks produce less and less diesel exhausts and emissions.…

In now a day’s the global demand for the fossil fuels are rapidly increasing due to the high prices remains same in the gasoline. These all increase the concerns about the climate changes and alternatively increase in the oil based industry to prepare for the alternate biofuels. As we know the biofuels are the potential revenue source and we can control the climate change, weather conditions by using the replacement of gasoline in motor vehicles. Now people are using the corn based ethanol as the replacement of gasoline in some states in U.S. CORN BASED ETHANOL…

10 Ways To Increase Your Truck Mileage While fuel prices are hiking up at a rapid speed, looking for fuel-efficient alternatives have become imperative. Many people tradeoff their large vehicles with something that utilizes less fuel. But, you run a goods carrier company, you need trucks and trailers, so trading them with other vehicles is not an option here. Therefore, increasing the truck’s fuel mileage is probably the best solution here. To do so, you just need to make some improvements and change old habits to save your gas.…

High-Grade Biopol is extremely suitable for medical applications which require contact with the body. Due to its biocompatibility, the body doesn’t react to the polymer, thus it is suitable as a material for band aids, needles, or surgical pins which are inserted into the human body during surgery. As well as biocompatibility, Biopol’s biodegradability allows it to decompose naturally, allowing the human body to decompose the polymer naturally and safely, without the use of surgery. Biopol is used in medical applications including woven patches, which protects skin tissues from scarring after surgery or injuries. After the wound is healed, the enzymes eventually dissolve away the patch as it is made of Biopol.…

Polyamides are made by taking an ammonia-like chemical and reacting it with an organic acid. Polyamides like Kevlar, are polymers. Polymers are huge molecules made of many matching parts joined together in long chains and repeating amides over and over again. Why is Kevlar important? To answer that question, we need to delve into the inner workings of the material - its chemical bonding and structure - as well as its properties and applications Panel 3 Kevlar is formed in small, straight rods that pack closely together in regular, parallel lines.…
