Developmental and Educational Psychology JiYoon Lim, M.S.

Purpose of Study:
In education, we intend person’s transition. By education, a little kid experiences and faces things that he might never have faced in natural settings. That process not only includes various areas and subjects to study, but it also includes social interaction. At the end of this intended process, a little kid becomes an adult; a part of the community.
Therefore, the education is important in both ways; in an intellectual and psychological way. However, even though both parts are important in a developmental process, I personally wanted to focus more on psychological aspect because if the educational process fails to care for the students’ mental health, or leaves them a trauma in the worst case, it even deprives the chance to portray their intellectual ability toward the world.
Out of various subjects and fields that students learn in school, my interest is focused on the language education. The language education is one of the fields that students appeal serious stresses, mostly because they need to learn and obey linguistic rules that are often confusing, and in some points, they have to accept the different culture. When reached out forcefully, it can cause a denial of a foreign language and a culture, it can even affect the person’s physical and psychological

I wish to widen my understanding in this field, and I also want to have a better understanding of China as a country. For that, I will try to focus on the subjects given and compare that knowledge with the real field.
