(a) Epidermis: Epidermal expression was positive in all cases. Epidermal pattern was cytoplasmic in 8 cases (22.9%) and nucleocytoplasmic in 27 cases (77.1%). Epidermal localization occupied the whole epidermal thickness in 14 cases (40%) and the basal cell layer in 21 cases (60%). Epidermal H score had a mean ± SD value of 113.4±50.8. Epidermal H score category is low in 25 cases (71.4%) and high in 10 cases (28.6%) (Table 2).
(b) Dermis: 14 of the examined samples contained dermal adnexa. The dermal adnexal LXR-α expression was positive in all of them. All of them showed cytoplasmic pattern. Dermal localization occupied the whole thickness in 10 cases and the outer root sheath in 4 cases Dermal H score had a mean ± SD value of 79.29±41.04. Dermal H score category is low in all cases (Table 2).

    • The cells of the lower layers of the epidermis are knit together in a more consistent "basket weave" configuration, instead of a haphazard arrangement. • The barrier function of the epidermis is disrupted in the first 24 hours causing the skin to be drier than usual. • However, after 7 days the skin is more hydrated than before. Effects of Microdermabrasion on the Dermis • The thickness of the dermis is increased • The number of collagen fibres are increased and they are thicker, more tightly packed, and more consistently organised •…

    Essay On Stratum Corneum

Substances can enter the body via the skin by chemical diffusion in which the chemical diffuses from a region of higher concentration (outer the surface) to one of lower concentration (inside the layers of the skin). Three mechanisms by which chemicals diffuse into the skin have been proposed: Intercellular lipid pathway As the name implies this process involves the movement of the hazardous chemical through a lipid pathway. The spaces of the corneocytes (cells of the stratum corneum) is the pathway through which the substances navigate through. These spaces are composed of fats, oils and lipids, as a result chemicals with a high lipo-affinity or with a lipophilic chemical nature will pass through these layers with ease compared to lipophobic or hydrophilic substances.…

    Melanosomes Lab Report

It is hypothesized that motor proteins, dynein and kinesin control the transport of melanosomes into melanocyte dendrites as it is the net sum of cytoskeletal forces on an organelle that regulate intracellular transport. Dynein typically walk towards the minus-end of a microtubule in retrograde transport while kinesin move towards the plus-end in anterograde transport in neurons. The purpose of the article was to determine the role and effect of cytoplasmic dynein in melanosome transport in human melanocytes (1). Located in the basal layer of the epidermis, melanocytes produce melanin by inserting granules of melanin into melanosomes (2). Melanosomes are the site of synthesis, storage, and transport of melanin pigments that reside in the matrix…

The main function of the epidermis is protection but does other things as well, such as absorption of nutrients and a thing or two with homeostasis. The epidermis is made up of mainly epithelial cells but also contains four other cells and covers the outside of the body or otherwise known as the body surface. The other four cells are Keratinocytes are a fibrous protein which protects the epidermis, Melanocytes produces a brown pigment and protects the skin from UV light, Langerhans cells deals with immune response, and Merkel cells gives us the sense of touch. There are also five sublayers that are associated with the epidermis. The stratum corneum is the outmost layer contain many layers of dead keratinocytes which continually shed and replace to form new healthy cells (Rapid Learning).…

-Diagnosis: According to Sander (2018) the diagnosis of acanthosis nigricans (AN) is typically from the physical examination. However, if the provider is unsure, the provider can obtain a skin biopsy. The results of a skin biopsy indicative of acanthosis nigricans will have findings of hyperkeratosis, epidermal papillomatosis, and mild acanthosis. The dermis may have a small amount of lymphocytes, plasma cells, and neutrophils, but it should not have a large amount of these cells, for it is not an inflammatory process.…

Sarcoidosis was first mentioned by J. Hurtchinson in early 1869, and was thought to be a dermatological condition based on a patient he had seen. During that summer, he visted Christiania (now Oslo, Norway), and viewed a compilation of pathological drawings, including one of a healthy, Swedish sailor, a patient of C.W. Boeck. The sailor had skin lesions comparable to those of Hutchinson's original patient. However, unlike Hutchinson's original patient, this one did not suffer from gout.…

The disease is caused by unequal crossing over is the Alagille syndrome. Its signs and symptoms depend on which part of the body it affected. If it affects the liver, its signs and symptoms are jaundice, itchy skin, and xanthomas. Most people who have this disorder usually “have distinctive facial features including a broad, prominent forehead; deep-set eyes; and a small, pointed chin” (NIH, 2016). This disease is associated with other diseases such as pulmonic stenosis and tetralogy of Fallot.…

The integumentary system is comprised of the skin’s two layers, the dermis and epidermis, as well as hair, nails, glands, and nerves. Underlying the skin is the subcutaneous layer, or hypodermis, this layer is not a part of the integumentary system but is vital to its function. Made up of a layer of loose connective tissue the hypodermis serves to connect the skin to underlying muscle and bone (142). The hypodermis also assists the overlying skin by supplying it with blood vessels and nerves (Vanputte, Regan, & Russo 149). Superficial to the hypodermis is the deepest skin layer, the dermis.…

This research will be covering the functions, structures, layers, and diseases of the skin. The skin covers the entire external surface of the human body and serve a variety of purposes. It serves as a protective barrier that prevents internal tissues from exposure to trauma, UV, radiation, temperature extremes, toxins, and bacteria.
