Normal, Illinois is part of the Bloomington-Normal Metro area, the state’s seventh biggest prefecture. The road travel in the city thrives, and many rely on the vast routes created by I-39, I-55, and the Interstate 74 to connect them to Chicago and other Illinois cities. Located five miles from the downtown area, the main airport, the Central Illinois Regional Airport, serves direct service to multiple airline hubs across the country. A mass transit system, the Bloomington-Normal Public Transit, revolves its service around Illinois State University. The city itself is an acclaimed haven for wilderness parks and recreation, such as the local planetarium and the Constitution Hiking Trail.

In terms of student diversity, a vast majority, 78% to be exact, of the students are White; followed by Latino Americans at 9%, Blacks at 7%, and Asians and other races taking the remainder. Most students in Illinois State are natives or residents in the state of New York. Overall, student unity is a prevalent asset in the university. Clubs and sports include activities such as the Model United Nations, local television station, and pep band.
