A detailing of the design development and its requirements of the project are set forth in the following section.
2.1 Background
The site location’s address for the design project is 2764 Cedar Avenue - Penticton, British Columbia (see Figure 6). The terrain itself poses challenges for the team that is attributable to the unique steep topography the site location is situated on. 2764 Cedar Avenue is classified as a hillside development and requires adherence to strict guidelines set out by the City of Penticton Bylaws. The location is currently accessed through the existing road of Partridge Drive, and the total site area lies within the city limits. The utility right-of-way extends from the proposed site location and ties into the existing neighbouring network located on Redwood Drive (see Figure 7). The site location consists of 1.70 ha, and it is found positioned amongst Lake Okanagan and Skaha Lake.

Figure 7: Development Boundary of 2764 Cedar Avenue (Google Earth, 2015) The adjacent area of the site location is surrounded by vacant hillside areas extending to the east. In Shea, the taxpayers (a corporation and two partnerships related through common ownership, or for our purposes, “Shea”) were in the home development business in Arizona, California and Colorado. Shea wasn’t in the habit of throwing up a spec home and calling it a day; rather, it preferred to develop planned communities ranging from 100 to 1,000 homes. The builders emphasized the features and lifestyle of the planned communities to potential buyers, advertising their developments with cliché, but apparently effective, slogans like “The Pursuit of Happiness.” Shea invested significant funds – upwards of 30% of total budgeted costs, in some developments — in the amenities – such as pools, golf courses, and clubhouses –for each neighborhood. In addition, Shea was held to its promise by state and municipal law,…

Living on Beacon Hill, Boston’s pinnacle neighborhood that brims with history and wealth, is a dream that is out of reach to many individuals due to the astronomically high real estate prices in the area. However, even if one were to have an unlimited budget to buy whatever home in Beacon Hill they desired, the limitless possibilities would make it hard for an individual to decide. If I had an unlimited budget, I would choose 94 Pinckney Street as my residence on Beacon Hill. The choice of 94 Pinckney Street would not be based off the interior of the residence, as the property has been extensively renovated causing it to lose its original touch, but because of its locality.…

Riverview Gardens in Appleton, WI was an interesting place to volunteer for my Civic Engagement experience. I started volunteering at Riverview Gardens last winter after writing about the site for my UW Fox Valley course in Urban Geography. We had learned about “gentrification,” in Urban Geography, which is the process of neighborhood upscaling that results in displacing residents who can no longer afford to live there. Riverview Gardens is an example of gentrification in reverse. Riverview Gardens was once Riverview Country Club, a private 72-acre golf course, which came up for sale in December 2011.…
