Successful organizations must break free from the cookie cutter workforce and create a culture unique to the company while accomplishing the mission. Attracting personnel to fit the unique culture is not always easy or cheap, but the payoffs can be exponential. Workforce planning is the roadmap to attracting, recruiting, and hiring personnel who are the right fit for the organization. When human resource management (HRM) fails to map out a plan, the organization can suffer by employing personnel who do not meet the qualifications or suit the culture.

Organizations who employ diverse talent should anticipate flexible work schedules to afford employees the opportunity to participate in religious commitments, family obligations, and military duties without fear of retribution.
Succession Planning
The HR department should analyze the needs against talent already on staff. Promoting within is an excellent way to recognize employees who possess skills for the job and who know the culture. Succession planning is a way to promote employees within an organization by preparing and mentoring employees for management and leadership roles who have skills, or could gain the skills over time (Reed and Bogardus, 2012). However, when promotion or succession planning is not an option HR must look at alternative recruiting approaches.
