CASE ANALYSIS OF ZIMMERMAN VERSUS MARTIN USING SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES
Sociological theories helps to understand relationships between individual and the society. “Sociological theories are defined as the statements of how and why particular facts are related.... used to analyze and explain objects of social study and facilitate organizing sociological knowledge”,(sociological perspective, 2013). The 2013 case Zimmerman versus Martin is a noteworthy occasion that shapes and characterizes human culture.
The case stood out as truly newsworthy, mixing discussion with respect to race relations, the criminal equity framework, and social stratification. Applying Conflict theory and Symbolic interactionism sociological theories in the case of Zimmerman versus Martin helps us understand how society affects the behaviours of an individual. …show more content…
When George Zimmerman, driving to Target for an errand, looked out at Martin and concluded as he told the police in a phone call, he was a suspicious guy. Both individuals were unknown to each other. Most central debates that would later ensue was that Martin Black ( African American). Zimmerman called the police to report his suspicions chasing Martin despite being refused by the police. Martin confronted Zimmerman and asked why he was following him and both got into a fight. Zimmerman then shot Martin using his firearm claiming that Martin was hitting Zimmerman’s head on sidewalk and thus shot him in self defense. One of the resident claims the incidence to be true as an eyewitness while the friend of Martin who was still on the phone during the incident says that it was Zimmerman who was being aggressive to Martin before the phone shut
