1. Synopsis of the case
The client was having problem with socializing in school, which resulted in high levels of anxiety. Following several sessions with the school counselor, the counselor referred her to an outside program due to the client’s behavior not improving. The referred counselor informed the client that the session would not begin until parental consent was given. The client did have a concern of her parent’s reaction, however, the parents permitted to start the session. During the first meeting, the counselor informed them of research, confidentiality, and rights, which would be taken place during these sessions. The counselor at the center let the client now that parent’s consent was required prior to any further sessions.
4. Ethical Decision Making Process
Problem: The client’s mother felt that her daughter did not improve in her behavior but actually worsened. She is not content of how the counselor did not share enough information regarding of the counseling methods.
Strategy for Ethical Reasoning
1. Fidelity: the counselor went into full details of client’s rights, responsibilities, confidentiality. In addition, that the sessions were also focused for research purposes.
2. Autonomy: the counselor gave the client her privacy and gave her details of what information will be shared and not shared to her parents.
3. Nonmaleficence: the client had sole focus on the client and made it his priority.
4. Beneficence: the counselor intern made sure that parent’s consent was made for the safety for not only the client but also the counselor.
5. Justice: The counselor was consistent to assist the client with her behavior problem.
Outcome
Sought that the client and the client’s mother is informed regarding of the sessions and methods used. In addition, follow the requests of the parents for the safety and well-being for the client and
