Caribbean Concert Review Essay

I had the pleasure of attending an African-Caribbean concert at Florida A&M University. The show was amazing and well put together, keeping me entertained mostly from the beginning of the end. The concert opened with a poem about culture and what it means from the host, stating how the show is a preview of the African and Caribbean cultures. The first performance was by Excellence Dance Studio performing “ Wanderlust Journey.” A group of little girls, all looked around the ages of 3-5 danced, they all had their hair in an afro puff. The performance was cute and adorable. Next was a modeling section by a group of older girls in the dance company. It wasn't all that entertaining honestly and more so confusing to me because there was no transition or introduction. The models had on …show more content…
It took us on a journey of war, invasion, colonialism, and the United States relationship with other countries. The performance included a lot of running around and a very loud, irritable high-pitched noise that just hurts your ears. In between performances, the host spoke a poem titled “Yesterday.” Afterwards, the School of Dance at Florida State University performed “ Nola All Up In My District Six.” This performance was my favorite of the night. It opened up with a monologue and somebody in a yellow suit. You couldn't see the person's face because it was covered with a black mesh covering. Eventually, multiple people came out on stage wearing red and yellow suits, with black mesh coverings on their face. The performance had a New Orleans and slight Caribbean feel to it, with upbeat music. Their energy and dancing really kept my attention the time. The African Caribbean Concert was fun, energetic, and entertaining and I'm so glad I went. It truly gave me a preview of the African and Caribbean cultures, some performances even displayed their troubles such as “ Between the Walls.” If I could, I would definitely go

The cultural event that I attended was the play To Kill a Mockingbird on February 25th at Leon High. This event came together through the effort of the students and faculty of Lean Theatre at Leon High School. The pamphlet handed out at the beginning of the play explained that this season Leon Theatre has aimed to show how we react in fear versus how we act in love. The play To Kill a Mockingbird is a widely known story expressing that people are people regardless of their settings. The play explemplifies the consequences that can result when we react in fear of standing up, but also the hardships that can be faced when standing up and speaking in love.…

For the Jazz Concert that I attended I saw the Nico Lembo Trio perform at Venkman’s in the Historic Fourth Ward of Atlanta. The Trio, consisting of drums, trombone, and electronic keyboard, had a sound that was heavily inspired by the “Cool Style” of Jazz in the early 1950’s with some hints of John Coltrane inspired Free Jazz elements. Throughout most of the performance the Trio played traditional instrumental jazz including classic songs by artists such as Miles Davis along with some original pieces by Nico himself. Although mostly instrumental the band brought a vocalist on stage for a select number of songs.…

On the 28 of March, my friend/classmate Orela Anani and I went to go see UNIVERSES' The Party People Salon performance. I was excited to see this show since it would be the first time I saw a performance in The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center as a University of Maryland student. When I first walked into the venue, Kogod Theater, I was shocked it was not what I expected (which was a large auditorium performance hall) it was a small dark room.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

The event that I attended for my essay two humanities experience was the AC/DC concert at Wrigley field in Chicago Illinois. I consider this a humanities experience because AC/DC is a rock band and rock music is a form of art. Rock music was developed in the 50’s and 60’s and was a huge element to the humanities movement of the 20th century. Through its expression of “youth culture” dancing, sexual freedom, and rebellion made one of the greatest musical movements in history. My experience at the concert started when we got to Wrigley field, walking through the gate people were everywhere as we (Tom and Tom’s dad) made our way up to our seats.…

The concert was a new experience for me. It was far different from a rap concert that would be held in some big venue. I believe that the purpose of this concert was to give people a taste of the J’s had in store and what they could bring to the table and see how people would react to their music. The background of this concert was strictly Jazz music, no other music was incorporated into it.…

On April 10th, 2018, I attended a concert performed by three talented performers: John Carlo Pierce (Tenor), Michelle Stanley (Flute), Jeff LaQuatra (Guitar). The performances were at The Griffin Foundation Gallery in the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art. The performances were part of the Music in the Museum Concert Series, which is a performance based on the art that surrounds it. The art installment in the museum is called Pompeii Archive: Recent Photographs by William Wylie. Pompeii was once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city.…

The performance attempted to give a dark but loving story which will keep you amused throughout the whole concert. I learned a lot about the choreographers in the performance by the way they presented themselves. Presentation means a lot and the way they proceeded was professional. The dance was successful to a point where everyone in the audience was thrilled and amazed from the performance. Practice makes perfect and the only way to improve is to try and do it over and over…
