Caregiving And Elder Abuse

Caregiving and elder abuse have been discussed as an important issue in most of the studies. Forms of elder abuse have been identified based on the prevalence of elder abuse in the United States which include psychological, emotional, and physical abuse. The reasons of these types of mistreatment are distinct and sometimes unknown. Relatives, friends, caregivers as well as professionals can all be responsible for the abuse of vulnerable elders. Most elder people who experience abuse are unable to care for themselves or require assistance with their care. Although it may difficult to know and understand if elder got abused or neglected, some cases that the causes of death are unknown. For instance, in Arkansas a study of 2400 deaths in a nursing home found that there are 50 cases suspected abuse or neglect (Gorbien & Eisenstein, 2005). Therefore, staff, nursing, and doctors in an institution, or nursing home should have knowledge about all of these types and mentor all of caregivers and their way of coping with senior
