Coming into high school, you’ll begin to hear “what do you want to do after high school?” When presented with this question, I asked myself I wanted to attend a secondary school to further my education or if I wanted to enter straight into a work field of my choice. During my high school journey and as it begins to end, I’ve concluded that I want to further my education and go to college. I chose to pursue a college degree in Social Work, with a concentration in Healthcare Social Work. Social work is a helping profession; its main priority is to improve a society’s overall well-being. With a BSW, the salary could be between $30,000-$40,000, with a MSW, $40,000-$60,000 and with a DSW the salary could be more than $40,000 a year. Each year of experience could increase salary about $400. Salary would depend on the state, city and your exact job title. Also, could depend on the setting in which people work, meaning whether they work in private or public sectors. Both women and men can work in this field, but men typically get paid more than women do. typical hours of work will depend on the person and the type of social work field, it is about 40 hours a week but it may vary. Most social workers are full time, with availability of evenings, weekends, and sometimes holidays to see their clients or attend meetings. Social workers will have a rotating on call schedule.
Social work first became appealing to me once I did research and learned that social worker helps individuals get through things. Growing up, I’ve never had a “shoulder to lean on” and it was very difficult to be open as I got older. Social work is about bettering others and guiding them through hardship.
