The American Heart Association or AHA reports that approximately 326,000 cardiac arrests occur every year out of the hospital, and 4 out of 5 cardiac arrests happen at home.
1. Cardiac arrests happen “when electrical impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic, which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating” (CPR Facts).
2. According to National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 4 common causes of sudden cardiac arrest are.
a. First, Coronary Heart Disease, when you arteries get clogged with buildup such as cholesterol (What Causes Sudden).
b. Second, Physical Stress such as intense physical activity, low levels of potassium or magnesium, major blood loss, sever lack of oxygen like drowning or choking (What Causes Sudden).
c. Third, Inherited Disorders such as heart arrhythmia (What Causes Sudden).
d. And last, Structural Changes in the Heart, such as an enlarged heart due to high blood pressure, or heart disease (What Causes Sudden).
