Regular citizens may want to choose cheaper ways to get through their daily lives, and little do they know, these cheaper alternatives are benefitting their health as well. For example, the gas for their car is more expensive, so they begin to walk or use their bicycle to get to work. Because people do not want to spend more money, they change their ways so that they do not have to, which prevents them from being lazy. Businesses, especially major carbon dioxide producers, definitely need to look for better sources, otherwise they are going to lose a lot of money in the long run. Possibilities may include biomass energy, wind, solar, and tidal power; all are costly at the moment but pays off over time. Fit planners of a company know to consider many different options and execute on the healthiest decision. On a grand scale, carbon tax influences nation after nation. Ireland, India, Norway, Japan, and Switzerland are a few of many countries using carbon taxes. Canada and United States are slowly following the lead with some provinces/states already using the system. Anyone can turn over to better alternatives, the carbon tax just gives them a …show more content…
Less demand for oil and gas makes it unnecessary for excessive unconventional extraction methods. An example of a controversial method is fracking, which includes disrupting the habitats of wildlife, and causing oil spills. Many unethical and harmful extraction methods exist, but with new alternative sources, it can be possible to eliminate some of them in the future. In a city environment, reduced pollution from cars is definitely a promise. Those who continue to travel by car for everywhere they go are paying a price, while those who truly care are trying out public transit, bicycles, and just walking. Public transit and bicycles are not damaging the environment like the way cars pollute the air every day. The overarching benefit is that greenhouse gas emissions are declining as a result of the carbon tax. In British Columbia, the emissions per capita decreased by 9.9% from 2008 to 2010; that is a notable reduction. Greenhouse gases play a huge part in climate change and this is a positive start to fixing the problem, hopefully other provinces and territories in Canada choose to follow British Columbia’s lead. Environmental issues are never easy to remove, but are definitely possible as long as everyone puts in their
