CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1. Introduction
Caprolactam (CPL) is an organic compound with the formula (CH2)5C(O)NH. This colourless solid is a lactam or a cyclic amide of caproic acid. Caprolactam was first described in the late 1800s by Gabriel and Mass, when it was prepared by the cyclization of ε-aminocaproic acid, the product of the hydrolysis of caprolactam.

In the months after Schlack’s discovery the first stocking were produced from Perlon. All the Perlon produced went to the war effort. While nylon 66 had gained a prior footing in the U.S. and in countries with Dupont licensees, nylon 6 had the prior foothold in Germany. Japan’s industry was established on a caprolactam base. In both Germany and Japan, nylon 66 has found its place next to the established

When hydrochloric acid was added to the unknown and known solutions, both resulted in no reaction. This also occurred when potassium hydroxide was added to both of the solutions. Barium chloride was then added to the two solutions, which resulted in a cloudy white precipitate from both of the solutions. A cloudy white precipitate also formed when calcium nitrate and ammonium nitrate were added to both the unknown and known solutions. These reactivity tests were conducted in order to establish how the unknown compound would react with acids, bases, and salts.…

Powder coating is the process you use to apply a coating without using solvents. This is the newest coating technique in the industry right now. You usually apply this type of coating to create a hard finish on metals and because it allows you flexibility to apply on a different layers of thickness. You would see this finishing in materials such as aluminum, medium density fiberboards, fusion-bonded epoxy and acrylics, usually on automobile finishing. To produce the powdered finishing, polymer granules are mixed with pigments and powder ingredients.…
