Capital Punishment In California Capital Punishment in California has carried out seven hundred and nine executions from seventeen seventy eight to nineteen seventy two. In nineteen seventy two, the California Supreme Court in the decision of the People V. Anderson, found that the death penalty violates the state constitution. A few months later, California voters reinstated the death penalty with Proposition seventeen, legalizing the death penalty. Since then there have been thirteen executions, the last one in two thousand and six. On November 8th, two thousand and sixteen, California will vote again on the death penalty. He was put to death by lethal injection. Mr. Williams was convicted of 4 murders and sentenced to death in 1979. He was also the co-founder of the crips. About five years after incarceration, Mr.Williams underwent a religious conversion and as an outcome, and wrote many books and programs to promote peace and to fight gang violence. He was nominated five times for the Nobel Peace Prize and was nominated four times for the Nobel Literature Prize. Williams was a co founder of the crips and was convicted of four murders and was sentenced to death, he made the best out of his situation and accomplished many things by telling his story and encouraging people not to go down the road he did. I don 't think he was any more harm to society and did not need to be put to death. I believe he would have had better purpose if he was still alive, he could have still done more positive and hopefully help people not join gangs because of his great …show more content…
The first injection is Sodium Thiopental, which is supposed to make the person go unconscious , which is supposed to make any pain undetectable. After the initial injection the IV is flushed with Saline, a substance that is used to push a drug into the bloodstream quicker. The second injection that is put in the IV is, a neuromuscular blocker. The result is complete muscle paralysis, which causes respiratory arrest. Following another saline flush is the final injection, potassium chloride. This last dosage of chemical floods the heart with charged particles that interrupt its electrical signaling, stopping it from beating. My thoughts on Capital Punishment are because of my personal beliefs. I don 't think it is right to kill someone for killing someone, especially if they are possibly innocent. It will cost California less to not have capital punishment, and I believe it is worse punishment to have to live the rest of your life in prison until you die rather than lethal injection. I believe giving people life without parole, will force them to think about what they have done, hopefully change them and give them a chance to encourage others to not go down the same path they

In the California 2012 ballot, Proposition 34 was created as a resolution but failed to successfully pass. This controversy of whether the death penalty should be abolished or kept, has brought up similar new initiatives in an effort to repair the system’s problems. The new initiative would propose two paths for the future voters in 2016, either pro-death or anti-death penalty. So as a future voter, concerns arise and the decision to support the anti-death penalty comes with more benefits.…

There have been numerous great points stated through the years such as the religious morality of executions to the positive effects on families and judicial justice. Not to forget the effects the penalty has on the inmates’ lives and mentality. Although the United States justice system is flawed when it comes to the punishment of the incompetent and mentally ill, it still provides an effective means of dealing with homicidal and violent individuals. The proposition narrowly lost by a vote of 52.8% to 47.2% (The Guardian). Californians should reconsider the vote to repeal the death penalty because it is unnecessary and costly. Legal executions in California were first authorized by the Criminal Practices Act of 1851 (CDCR).…

Typically, three drugs are used in lethal injection. Sodium thiopental or pentobarbital is used as an anesthetic to induce unconsciousness, pancuronium bromide (Pavulon) to cause paralysis and send your respiratory system into arrest, and potassium chloride will stop the heart (penalty). This is where you are given these drugs which then leads you to have an immediate painless death. You can also be granted other means of being put to death such as in Texas and Utah you can choose death by firing squad or hanging. Still to this day people find lethal injection to be the most humane way to put people to death when found guilty.…
