The first person we met was a native American Speaker. He was from the Grand River Band Of Ottawa Indians. He shared with us many of the things he did as a child and traditions his tribe does for the children of the tribe. He also shared with us that his tribe is able to track back their ancestors all the way back to about 2,000 years ago. He shared that Moose and Elk used to be a very popular animal to hunt and use here in West Michigan but they have since left the area. Meguich he taught was how to say thank you, along with teaching our group a few more words from his tribe. We had also encountered a group to trade/barter with. They were very difficult to barter certain things with. Making it difficult to receive what we most wanted. “purchase horses; produced several but would not take the articles...wanted an instrument...procured two dogs and departed.” Lewis and Clark wanted to receive horses in exchange for some articles of clothing to help with travel. The native americans did not want clothing because they could make their own which would suit them better. So they were not able to make the trade. But they a good amount of the time could come to an agreement and make the trade. The traders and the Native americans were some of the only encountered people on this …show more content…
Today on August 11, 1806 while we were all out hunting for elk, Clark went to shoot and accidentally shot Lewis. We had to quickly learn a technique to save Lewis long enough to get him to camp where the others had a few medical supplies to save him better than us. We dressed my wounds with clothing, sticks and rope we found and had with us. The group and I had made as tint good enough to save him and get him to the camp. At the camp, Lewis experienced high pain, with a fever which made a horrible night. But Lewis ended up being just fine. With Clark’s shot missing both bones and arteries. This was one major survival technique, all of us explorers with Lewis and Clark had to learn. We also, learned how to purify our water on the go. We had to learn to get rid of the bacteria in the water. We did not have bottled water from home with us. We had to collect buckets of water, than set of a tipi. In tipi there were three layers. The first layer was leaves and grass, the second layer with sand, and the last layer with charcoal. We had to put all our water into the forest layer and set the bucket underneath all three. We had to repeat this with the same water over and over until it was clear. Once it was clear looking it was mostly bacteria free, and had no more dirt in it. Without the bacteria in it,we were not getting sick from the water anymore. Water Purification and healing people quickly were
