The term sustainable development was mentioned for the first time in the Our Common Future report, known as the Brundtland Report, at the commission World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987 to highlight the environmental and social problems worldwide. the Government of Canada used the same term in the report A Guide to Green Government in which the government stated its commitment to achieving sustainable development and outlined its action plan for reaching his goal about the environmental, social and health issues. This term has allowed the Canadian Parliament to create and amend the Auditor General Act that included the creation of a legal requirement for certain departments
