Can Kids Be Scared Straight Analysis

Some may say appeals to fear are not the best motivational force, but others agree they are. Fear can be taken as a good thing or a bad thing depending on your opinion. I personality think appeals to fear are the best motivational force. Fear is the best motivation force because it scares people so much that it makes them want to change, to be able lives a much better life. Kathy Feinstein, the author of the nonfiction article "Can Kids be Scared Straight?” stated "Visibly shaken, all of the teens in the film vowed that they would rehabilitate their lives, they didn't want to end up behind bars." (28). The teens were scared of jail and the way they would get treated in jail, so they decided to change their ways. Abraham, from the program "Change Within" was fighting and stealing before the jail tour. Shortly after the tour began he realized the dangers of jail and decided he was going to turn his life around ("Corcoran"). For example, Elijha, from the film, wanted to go into the military, but due to his actions in his past he couldn't. He came to the conclusion that his bad behavior in his past affected his future, and vowed to change his life into the right direction ("Corcoran").
