With this new freedom it is easy to fall into the temptations that the world has to offer. One major temptation students face is drugs and alcohol, which for some reason is more accessible on college campuses do to the fact that college students make up most of the drug and alcohol user population. Because of this students are under the influence which can lead to them making decisions while they are not in the right mindset that can lead to violence while they are on campus. Most sexual assault incidents occur while one or both people involved are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drugs and alcohol can also make a person physical in other ways, which can lead to physical altercations or fighting. While some people are more physical when they are under the influence there are people that become more emotional. You may think that emotional people could do no harm, but they could be at risk of harming their self, which is still considered violence. You could have had perfect mental health in your early years of being a minor, but going off to college is a major change in a person’s life and many students do not know how to adapt to the new environment. This can lead to the development of depression, anxiety and many other mental diseases. It is not a major problem if this occurs, the problem is when the people with these problems do not recognize they have an issue and do not get help. When students do not try to fix the problem that they have that’s when the situation can become dangerous. When students are not healthy mentally they can start to self-medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol which we already know can lead to violence. Also, some students deny that they even have a problem, which can lead to dangerous behavior because they let their problem fester and that can lead to uncontrollable episodes which can result in severe violent activity like suicide or the horrific event of the heart breaking school shootings. Mental health is one of the major factors in violence on campus and can ultimately be prevented with resource that are available
